Can Money Be Made With A Lebron James Blog?

I know sports fans will continue to devour everything online about Lebron James returning to play basketball against his former team in December.

Is there any way to set up a blog and make money with this massive traffic that will be online reading about his return to Cleveland? I know the media will have a field day with this up coming game.

Your blog would be filled with hateful comments from cleveland fans, just something to think about. Adsense it up, you'd make money if it ranked.

I don't see why not. I would suggest starting it now though so you can build the site up and hopefully get some good rankings before December. That way when December rolls around people will be able to find your site easier. More visitors = more money.

I'm sure you could monetize it with Lebron James or Basketball related products and would get some sales.

    Don't waste your time.

    1. There is way too much social media sports site competition out there (FanNation, RealGM, RealCavsFans, etc...) that people go directly to. This is a problem in itself, but a huge problem given you've got only a few months.

    2. This is a time sensitive topic that becomes totally worthless shortly after it passes.

    3. You are going to have issues building a decent site around such a narrow topic that few people in the big scope of things really care about. How many different ways can you say "X days until Lebron returns!" ?

I have a blog about a sports figure who is waaaaay less well-known than Lebron, and it makes like 2 or 3 dollars a day from adsense. But I have to write a new post every day. Set up google alerts with Lebron James' name in it, then pick the best article and rewrite it for your own blog. Also, be sure to check google trends and write about anything there as it relates to Lebron James. Short posts are OK, but I suppose longer posts would be better.

Short, re-written posts take like 5 to 10 minutes per day. Make sure to put a lot of pages in about "How much money does Lebron James make" and "Lebron James salary" and "Lebron James education", etc. That way you'll get some higher-paying adsense ads. And whatever you do, make sure you cover ever little thing Lebron wears or endorses, because people eat that stuff up. You'd be amazed how many people search for that junk. Good Luck.

Get like 20 pictures of Lebron James and upload them to your blog, then just use them over and over again for each post. After 20 posts, start back again at picture number 1.

You're getting some piss poor advice here. But, go ahead if you dare.

See, LeBron (like most MAJOR celebs) has a team. And some peon on the team spends time every day searching the LeBron ALERTS to see who is using his name for commercial purposes.

Post an opinion about his game. OK. Opine about his desertion from Cleve, OK. Try to cash in and make money on his name?

Get your lawyer ready, you WILL be contacted, and if you are very lucky, you'll get a cease and desist order first, HOWEVER, if they feel like it, you'll get a bill for, perhaps, tens of thousands of dollars and trust me, LeBron has the pockets deep enough to make your life miserable.

Now that doesn't mean NOT to do it, just be aware of the Pitfalls you might face. And tread very carefully when using a CELEB's name, picture for commercial use without giving them their due.

Other than that, sounds like FUN.

PS. We still love LeBron in Akron.

      Gordon,

What if he set up a fan site and just put in adsense?

        Rezbi,

I'm NOT opposed to his site, it might work and adsense might be good too. I'm saying, CELEBS have people specifically used to PROTECT their "rights"...and LeBron is one of the most recognized CELEBS in the world.

I think we'll see a TON of such sites spring up. And everyone who does one could get lucky and in some way cash in...maybe with adsense.

My point to the OP, is be aware of how things work in the REAL world where lawyers make big money in squashing little guys like bugs beneath their legal eagle shoes.

That is what they get paid to do, LeBron isn't going to show up at his house and ask him nicely to stop using him for personal gain.

My WARNING is his expressing his desire to CASH in on LeBron, if he can do it in such a way that he flys under the radar or does not cross the "line" of commercial use of LeBron's image or name, he may do great.

But to say, "it won't hurt to try", is, IMO, very bad advice. He could get HURT big time because there are some BIG time lawyer's "on the job". That's all.

Good luck OP. At least you're "thinking" about the future, good for you.

    Doesn't hurt to try.

If you make nothing, how much will you have lost?

On the other hand, you could end with with a lot more.
