The intent of mobile internet use

Here's a link to an article I was just reading about mobile internet usage.

This relates to what we do because as internet marketers we need to know where people are spending time and what they are looking for.

This article is from prnewswire.com
New Study Shows 'Intent' Behind Mobile Internet Use -- NEW YORK, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ --

and the most interesting part I found was this:
Mobile phones are not a learning tool. Mobile users (76%) are much less likely than all users (92%) to go online to learn. Learning requires time and patience, something mobile phone users are in short supply of.
They (64%) are 1.5 times less likely than the traditional user (96%) to go online to educate themselves
They (64%) are 1.4 times less likely than the traditional user (94%) to go online to research.
They (95%) are more likely than the traditional user (86%) to go online to keep informed.
So it seems right now at least that most people on cell phones are not looking to "learn" as much as PC and desktop users.

This all might be really obvious to some here, but to me this is interesting and this means that at least for a while, probably for at least 5 years, the majority of "information seeking" will come from pc and desktop users.

the article says " Learning requires time and patience, something mobile phone users are in short supply of."

So what application is there in this?

I guess we should all be preparing to enter the mobile marketing world when it is appropriate, but for most of us, it's not really appropriate for us yet unless we're selling ringtones maybe.

So don't worry about desktop usage becoming obsolete any time soon.

People and mediums will have to change quite a bit before more purchasing of information starts to happen on cell phones.

I would appreciate any other insight others have on this. Hope this is interesting and that I haven't wasted your time lol.

Agreed. Who buys something on your mobile. You go on the mobile internet in about three ways.

    A - You need directions/maps
B - You need quick information, not long passages
    C - You don't have a desktop PC

I think it's safe to say the following:

Newbies, if you're worried about whether to get started in mobile, or desktop or anything like that... just do the same stuff that everyone is recommending on this site.

The most important thing is being able to build trust with people in your niche and get them emotionally attached to your material and content.

This is most preferable with an email list. Tell them the best story that you can. This is why it's very valuable to be in a hungry niche and also be personally compelled about the information that you are sharing. Hint: What if you actually deeply, deeply cared that people get results? (I try to ask myself this daily, "self, do you really give a sh** about people?")

    Thanks for those stats.
Funny, the recent excitement by marketers who
are peddling reports and videos on this subject
    leave out that important information.

I have purchased a couple packages recently on the subject
    of Mobile SMS Marketing.
I myself will not reply to all the "Spam texting" I already receive.
    I find it annoying.
Maybe I am getting older but I do not like to text
with a tiny keyboard or read all the small text I already get.

The information I paid for regarding text marketing,
fails to mention the obvious. The real target audience is most likely
    young teens/adults.

You're from Portland! That's sick! I've been trying to move back there for a while. Darn I wish there were other thinkers here in town that I could meet with. I want it sooo bad. I live in central oregon.
