How did you get into full-time internet marketing?

It turns out that I can't find any introduction section in WF like many others so I'll just jump right here.

Anyway, I am not new to internet marketing but I guess I have not fully maximized my potential yet. I've been browsing the warrior forum for quite a long time already and I just decided to register here so that I can monitor and participate in the discussions.

My biggest hurdle right now is getting rid of analysis paralysis 'coz I think I am just reading and collecting stuffs but I am not doing much actions. And, I am just doing internet marketing part-time so I feel that I am trapped with my day job as of the moment.

Will you share how did you manage to escape your 9-to-5 job and begin your journey to your own internet business?

Nice to meet you, and welcome to the Forum.

As for me, my journey began once I stumbled upon Ed Dale's 30 Day Challenge (now called The Challenge). It was through this training I learned a certain skill set, and began providing this service to fellow Warriors. This allowed me to leave my 9-5 and focus full time on my online business.

I will add to that my reading of Tim Feriss' book The 4-Hour Workweek.

Best of luck to you in your journey.

    Derek

I was once like you. Most of us were. Most of the information you read isn't that accurate. I am not saying it's bogus, just different for everyone.

You have to try it if you want to learn it. By reading it you only know where to search for that information if you need it. If you read something similar, you'll forget the first thing (maybe a better one).

If you try you remember it all. Good luck and Welcome

Hi Derek and accelerator_dd, Thanks for the encouragement and sharing your personal experience.

I have not completed Tim Feriss' The 4-Hour Workweek yet but I have that book. What I am followed and following again is the 30 Day Challenge/The Challenge. I also have other materials that I follow but I don't want to get distracted with so many guides and blueprints that I end up doing nothing.

Derek, I am particularly interested how you offered your service here. I am personally accepting clients but only on my free time. What did you do to exceed your day-job salary? I bet it's not overnight.

I will echo what Michael (one of my heros) stated in the above post...add value.

There is a section here in the Forum where people can provide various services. There are 4 main categories of services you can provide, but the specifics of each can be very far reaching...everything from article writing, blog posting, market research, backlink building, graphic design, and so on.

Check it out here... Warriors For Hire

For me I saw a service that no one else was providing, but many people were in need of, and just capitalized on that by providing value at an affordable price. As my reputation grew (and likewise the demand) I was able to raise my prices. What I started selling at $15 to $20, I now sell for $67+, and no one is complaining. Why? It's valuable.

So no, this wasn't overnight, but over the span of about 5 months. However my situation is unique to me, as yours will be to you.

It's funny because it was through the 30DC I stumbled on this idea. I was going through the training, and something just really struck me as something I could not only do for myself, but do for others. So I think there's a lesson in there somewhere about running with your ideas and making something happen.

I don't know if this helps much or not. But if I would say if anything, find a way to add value to other people, and do so in a personal/unique/different way.

      Best of luck to you,
      Derek

I started in 2007, joined Carbon Copy Pro, then formed my own Internet Marketing Company for retail/offline businesses. The key to success with Internet Marketing is about 90% between the ears. The rest involves learning and educating yourself at expert level.

I went full time well before I was ready. Want to talk about being paranoid I was a nervous wreck but deep down I believed the extra time I would have going full time would impact my business in a major way.

Living off my savings and rolling all my IM profits back into my business paid off tremendously within 6 months of going fulltime. .

I guess the secret to going full time is having lots of faith and belief in yourself.

For me i didnt start off with this goal... I was just "getting leads" for my business... Then I was getting so many everyday that I started "selling leads"... It didnt take too long to connect the dots. That was 10 years ago.

I found a niche-which was ebook writing and marketing coaching , wrote an ebook, got a logo, starting giving ebooks away with other people's bonus offers, did a 2 part teleseminar that I also gave for free with a $9.97 upsell for transcripts. Then I upsold them into my first online ebook writing workshop and then my first ebook marketing workshop. In the meantime, I took courses and went to live networking events, made connectings and starting doing a lot of jv calls, and then created an online expo.
I made over $40,000 my first year, 6 figures in 2 1/2 years. I hope that helps.

I got laid off from my job, then decided to just go for it. I didn't look for a job, but instead pooled all my efforts into making money ASAP. And here I am, three years later

You seem to be a determined person and congratulate on you success. I also want to have a try, but a little afraid that I will get nothing after quiting my job.

    Hi metallicvapor,

I won't go into specifics, but I will give you the two guiding principles that made the difference.

It sounds basic, but here's the first principle...

I started selling stuff I created.

That's about it. I had tried promoting other people's stuff, but I didn't quite get it at the time. However, once I switched to making my own products and selling them, it was like flicking a switch.

It forced me to take things more seriously, to learn how to promote, and how to run a business.

I'm not saying people shouldn't promote stuff created by others, but rather that they should build a firm foundation. Nowadays I promote other people's stuff, but my reasons for doing so are entirely different, and this is what I would consider the second principle...

    Provide value.

See, before I would look at how much the affiliate payout was, but that's all. But I had it all wrong. Once I figured out it was about value, things started to change.

In short, I believe anybody that follows these principles will find success, and I can't wait to hear your success story.

    All the best,
    Michael

After 4 years of bumbling, I found a niche and invested 4 years of focused, dedicated hard work. The money started coming early, but I waited until my income was above my salary and higher than my on-the-job income for more than 12 months before I took the dive. I went full-time online in March of 05.
