Is it just me or are other people also jittery with the marketing lingo

Hi there it's Alan Bray here and i am new to the forum and this is my second thread. I wanted to hear the opinion of other people on the matter of the IM language. What I mean is that although using weird terms that aren't used elsewhere is harmless and has it's community charm, I think that it is contributing to some of the problems people have while trying to learn how to market.

When somebody for the first time learns of the concepts of marketing, they tend to go with the flow and to try to catch up to everybody else. This is ok except that i have seen it creating a cycle, where in the eyes of the beginner everything is similar. Every course uses the same style sales page with the same rhythm, and what this does is make them feel lost and hopeless and unsure of what to do next. They don't know when they are ready and they stay confused and take no action.

So I think that there are two ways to combat this. First if people would put more individual into their product, and second if this market would stop being so unique. Either way what would happen is that the person will be guided by his common sense rather than what the community portrays. A beginner that dubs himself "newbie" is going to picture himself as such until he makes money which he won't do until he is satisfied with his knowledge level which would mean he isn't a newbie. So where does that leave him? As confused as you!

I don't think that it such a serious issue that needs immediate addressing, but i am curious to know if anybody else is uncomfortable with the strange terms like "newbie", "guru" and "super affiliate" instead of beginner, expert, and big marketer" for example. If anybody agrees with my psychological point also please let me know. Thank You.

    Hey Alan,

One of the biggest problems in internet marketing is information overload with the new internet marketer or new internet business owner for say. It took me a long time to come to the realization that most every course is the same as far as basic concepts for the beginner. What one starting out must understand is that it is not about knowledge so much as applying and seeing what happens. My suggestion is don't get caught up in the terms so much or the amount of knowledge that is out there. You will be learning throughout your entire entrepreneurial career so don't get in a hurry first of all. #1 suggestion is pick a course and stick with it until you make it work. Lose focus on all the new and latest hyped products being pushed in your face. Pick a sub-niche of internet marketing and become an expert in it. What appeals to you? What appeals to others? It's all about supply and demand. Target other internet marketers if you want to get into the internet marketing product side of things (i.e. product creation, affiliate marketing, email marketing, etc.). If you want to target another niche then the strategies still work regardless of who you learn them from. No course is a complete package, although there are some great ones out there, but the money is in sub-niches and the list in those niches.

If I could recommend one thing in my experience, I would highly suggest that as soon as you learn something new, take action on it. Only those who take action will succeed. The reason you may have heard that 99% of all businesses fail and only 1% succeed is mainly due to taking action. Implement what you learn and forget all the hype and lingo. Good luck and I hope to see you succeed as well.

I don't really think there is anything to agree with or disagree with. It's your opinion and you are entitled to it.

I do, however, think you are over thinking this. And there we have another term used in IM, Analysis Paralysis.

Now I will do something very unprofessional (for a translator): will translate word by word a saying from my mother tongue:

      Too much thinking makes wrinkles...

Oh yeah! One more thing, the reason you see the cycle happening is because that is usually what is working for most marketers. It is essentially the same no matter what:

    Optin Page
    Confirmation Page
Thank You page with free gift

    or

    Optin Page
    Sales Page
    Upsell Page
    Downsell Page
    Thank You Page

This hasn't changed in years. It because it works. As for the page customization it is a constant trial and error, test and tweak. If it works they tweak the page further to try and increase conversions until the marketer is satisfied or starts another project. Copy what others do, but test and tweak your own stuff. For launches, that is a whole other ball game.

    To Your Success,

You can learn a lot, here. Don't waste time starting fights with people who can help you out. It's a waste of time and not worth it.
