AARRGHH I am going insane

So I set up the site, it looks much prettier than before, I am getting a good number of visitors to it but no one joins up to post any articles.

Now it could be a number of things, maybe the visitors are not site owners, maybe this maybe that... the list could be endless.

So I am pleading to you warriors out there, what is the best strategy to obtain people to write partake in my site. I think the incentives are good, its pretty easy so that people do not have to spend much time posting, we doing everything for them...I just cant get people there...

Ok rant over, maybe you guys can help, offer suggestions....pretty please with all the money fairies blessing you:p

    What is your traffic source?

Maybe your visitors are not interested in posting something. Maybe they are in "entertain me"-mode.

Do your visitors land on the main page?

Maybe your visitors don't know that they can post articles on your website to earn money. There is a lot of content on the main page.

I think you should make it more obvious to your visitor where you want them to click.

Did you setup analytics for your website? That will help you to know where your visitors are clicking (website overlay).

    Thanks Michael.
About 70% is landing on the front page, I am busy creating a banner now for the post pages as well with information about the site, so it gets distributed site wide. My traffic sources varies, from direct through google, social sites, forums the usual suspects.

I am out of ideas with this one, my brain feels like it hit a dead end...very frustrating

Possibly yes, but any success of a good idea is the success of implementing the action....which at the moment I am bowing my head in shame, this brick wall that showed up is seriously doing a number on me

  • Hi Peter,

It is an attractive site, but I am wondering if you might be "spoiling your viewers with choice".

Hey I am no expert but there are a number of links available that may tend to "unfocus" your viewer and turn them off from actively blogging.

I couldn't get into "Innnovators" or "Submit Posts and Earn" by the way.

The top section seemed to keep refreshing which was a bit distracting.

Could you somehow focus the viewer to the area you want them to look at first?

    Sorry couldn't of more help.

    Cheers.

Hmm, not sure why you could not get in those links, I will have a look into that. I was a little sceptical about the top featured section, was wondering if it should contain one post or as an animation as it is now, so you confirmed my decision.

      Great ideas thanks

Actually, on visiting your site I have no clue what its raison d'etre is.

    Why should I stay?

    Why should I post?

What am I going to find there?

What's in it for me as a visitor or poster?

I want to know all this the second I arrive. Visitors aren't going to bother clicking around to try to solve this mystery.

So, I would use that white space to the left of the image to explain in one bold and colorful statement what your site's all about. Think very carefully about what it will say because people will use that to decide if they're going to hang around or not.

    Hope it helps.

    Cheers,

Neil, I was actually going to ask a question that would of given me your answer. As I said, I was always very skeptical about that section of the site.
    Thanks!

    Another thing.

    The web. The loop.

    What does that mean?

There's no point in trying to be clever with stuff like this because people just don't get it. They have no clue what you were thinking when you condensed your site into these 4 words.

    Cheers,

What I always do when asked to look at sites is clear my mind and just click through to the site as a potential punter. I then feedback the first things that come into my mind as a casual site visitor, not as a long-in-the-tooth marketer.

Then, assuming the design doesn't turn me off right away...

The first question in my mind is usually: What is this? I want that answered immediately.

The second question is: What am I supposed to do? I need crystal clear direction as to the action I need to take. Sign up free now or whatever.

People simply don't have the time or the inclination to work all this out for themselves.

It's an art getting this right but it is worthwhile. Train youself to look at your site through the eyes of someone who just landed. Then clear your mind completely and see what pops into your head as soon as you arrive with your mouse quivering and desperate to click on something that will give you some advantage.

    Cheers,

    Neil

Are your visitors people that want to make money by posting articles?

Or is your traffic just people seeking information from the articles on there?

Maybe you need to market it to people who do article marketing, but if it's new with no PR and not a lot of traffic that might be a problem.

From a writer's point of view, if you are trying to attract based on earning, 30% just doesn't cut it. There are too many places I can post that will give me at least 50%.

Obviously, if you're a marketer and can use the site for backlinks, then that's another benefit.

Neil has brought up some great points and I'll add this... that WP Theme you are using is geared towards marketing products. The whole layout and feel of that theme is designed to feature products for sale or products being reviewed.

It is not at all made for a pure article repository or a article directory.

If you want to attract article marketers and authors, your site layout needs to appeal to their senses.

The first thing anyone wants to know is whats in it for me and how much does it cost. I like this design but as pointed out above this design is not for an article site.

Next, I feel the images are a bit big like the one on the submit articles page (the dollar sign) it kind of takes you through an narrow alley while you are trying to read and grasp the idea (not comfortable).

All very good points thanks, keep em coming. I would like this to be as user friendly as possible. The design, well for now I am going to stick with it, money spent so I will try my best to make it work.

Changed the earnings to 80%, I am not looking to monetize the site for myself nor sponsors really, just to get good articles in for them. I am going to list the sponsors on as well, as soon as I get permission from them if I am allowed to do so on their behalf. Its a bunch of magazine publishers I did work for. Traffic is not the biggest concern, the biggest concern is getting people to post. So working on the front page a little more now as well as the inside pages.

Critic away people....as Neil said I need to look at it from a visitors point of view, which I struggle with.
