Google Local Places

Fairly new to internet marketing and still learning the ropes somewhat.
Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question or not but i'll give it a go anyhow.
Does anyone know Google Local/Places and how to use it effeectively to get a listing.
I have a site which i am trying to position on google local, but it doesn;t seem to appear on Google local. I have created the listing but it does not seem to appear on Google. It has been about 2 weeks now but still not a single impression.
Does anyone have any tips about getting listed on Google Local. I have another google local listing in another area and that is getting impression but this one does not seem to even display.
