Domain Name Appraisal (Should I or not)

Just the other day I had an email from the Vice President of name-deals.com asking me how much I wanted for one of my parked domains... I give him a pretty high 6-figure number and he came back saying that he would give me the offer less 10% but I would have to go and have an independent appraisal done first and pointed me to this webpage:

What do you think?
Is it worth paying for an appraisal for him or is it just another appraisal scam that is going around again ?

Thanks

He told you to go to a certain place for appraisal. Thats a sign of a scam. Usually they allow you to go anywhere you' like, I've seen people be scammed before using fake appraisals and more on domainer forums.

I Don't have the time to give you a full response now, but check the warning's section and research this site, before doing a deal with them.

DONT.....as a domainer this is a scam that has been going out for years.....PLEASE do not even respond to the email. The storyline changes every few months but the result is the same....wasted money and possible id theft.

It's an old appraisal scam. Been around a long time. They don't really want to buy your domain. They just want you to purchase "their" appraisal. Don't do it.

Do you really think someone would pay you six figures for a parked domain?

Plus - that website is just rubbish - look at www(dot)domainexplorer(dot)org

Off topic, but people pay six figures for parked domains all the time.

Highest domain sale ever is parked (sex.com)

I don't think that one would need an appraisal

Unless the domain in question was seriously desirable (and I doubt that from what the OP said), then I stand by what I said. If I'm wrong (what - me - wrong never!) then the OP should put the site for sale on the open market, or use a reputable broker.

Yup, oldest trick in the book. They often email your email, listed in the whois record and offer some really good money for domains that would normally sell for just a few hundred dollars.

You should read the post made by Gene Pimentel. He is in the domain business...

Serious buyers usually have a very good idea of what the name appraise for. Never pay for an appraisal before the sale.

You should tell him that an appraisal is not needed. The value of that domain is what he is willing to pay for it. Not what some independent tool thinks its worth. It stinks of scam to me.

    Hello
This is the Internet, if you don't think something is reliable then you shouldn't go for it. I am sure if your site is worth that amount then there will be other offers in the future. You want to sell the website now then you should put it in the open for many offer. But it is up to you, are you willing to take the risk to lose money to sell the website?

I'm sure it's been said but this is a total scam. I actually got the same email a few days ago, but luckily I've read about it before on the WF, so I knew ahead of time. Thanks All for Good Advice.

No. Every domain appraisal service that I am aware of is a rip off but that is just my op.

Thank you for everyone’s comments it’s most appreciated... so it looks like my suspicions were right and this is a scam!

Since his first email, I’ve had many emails from him, pushing me to get these appraisals done... should I email him back and have some fun with him or should I just ignore him?

Just so everyone knows the scammers email address being used is jerry-eisenberg@name-deals.com and the appraisal service that he wanted me to use was CertifiedDomainValue.com

So back to domain appraisals in general ... does anyone think it is worth while getting one done say through sedo especially for the ones where I am looking for at least 5-6 figures for?
