How many keywords in an Article

For all you article marketing experts out there,

how many targeted keywords do you usually put into an article you write? Do you zone in on just 1? or 2-3?

Thanks,
Ethan W.

    Hi Ethan,

I don't worry about keyword density, but...

What I typically do is focus on one keyword, and then use it in the title, once right at the beginning of the article (first one or two sentences), somewhere in the middle, and again at the end.

After that, if the keyword fits naturally into the article, it may be used again, but only as a matter of consequence.

Then I simply write in a conversational style and don't worry too much about LSI keywords and stuff like that. The way I figure it, if I stay on topic those words will be used anyway.

    All the best,
    Michael

    Hey Michael,

Thanks for the tips, would you be able to PM me with any other article marketing tricks you have, and I could bounce my ideas off of you and hear what your take is on it?

    Thanks again,

    Hey Michael,

Just was curious if your method worked for getting you traffic from google and if your articles are competing on the top pages of google? Also if only interjecting one keyword in your articles you can probably smash out quite a few in a day if you choose to?

Ethan, I'll generally focus each article around one major keyword. In addition, I'll try to include a few related terms.

A lot depends on the length of the article, too. There just isn't room to focus on much more than one term in the 250-400 word filler that passes for most articles.

On the other hand, if I'm doing 1,000 words plus, I can put a lot of related terms in. This helps in theming and in drawing more long tail searches. Those longer articles typically wind up on my sites, though...

I've written thousands of articles and thousands more press releases, forum posts and blog entries, what I have found most effective is

        1. 1 target long-tail keyword phrase per piece of content
        2. Keyword repeated somewhere between 2-3 times
        3. Related keywords sprinkled throughout the content - the words that come up as related by Google Keyword suggestion tool really do help
        4. Get a few good quality inbound links
        5. Even better if you can put your content into the form of a blog post that gets ongoing comments - I have some of these that draw more and more traffic as comments are added each week.

        Hope that helps,

        Jeff

  • I had a funny tincident with EZA today. I was writng an article around a longtail keyword (btw, what's up with the three phrase max anchor text?).

I was basically writing about air, or a product for air. Obviously, I wasnt targeting "air" as the keyword, but one of my articles had a 7% keyword density of the word air. By the time I edited it down, the article didnt even make sense.

I like 1% KD or around there. I always target one keyword phrase, and sprinkle it with LSI throughout. As long as I use the keywords naturally throughout the article, it generally takes care of itself.

Ezine Articles will stop you from submitting articles if they have a KW Density above 2%, so you can effectively just keep it at 2%. As for article length - I keep it between 300-450 words.

I mention this in a thread you can read here:
    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...-left-out.html

But basically I use my target keyword once in the headline, once in the first paragraph and once in the resource box. That's it. I use as many secondary keywords as possible. But that doesn't mean you won't have success doing it a different way. that's just what my testing has shown me gets the best results.

All depends on the word count..If it's 500 words I would say about 2-4 times..1000 words would be more along the lines of 5-7...Best of luck!
