Does it effect SEO transfer free blog to self hosted?

If I transfer an already well ranking free blogger or wordpress blog to my own domain and hosting account would I lose my ranking?

Cheers

You could have some technical issues with indexed pages and url's being "lost" in the conversion to new blog software.

I've also heard rumors about Google "dislikeing" IP changes, and googlebot dissapearing for awhile, though I've never experienced that for myself.

Overall, it is probably better to move away from a free platform for the basic reason that the host could shut you down one day for whatever reason they choose.

      Best!

Yes because the new urls will be different.

This is why it's best to get your own domain and hosting account in the beginning.

I suggest you hang on to the old free blog and link from it to a new one hosted with your own domain.

    My Recommendation:

If possible, use 301 redirect from your free blog to your new blog, don't close your free blog account / website.

Continue to build back links to your new blog, I am not sure the 301 redirect removed will affect your page rank or not.

As already mentioned, the urls would be different, different IP, host, server, for sure going be a big change to what the spiders see. Also any back links to the free blog would be lost.
