Is Putting A Pic Of Yourself On Your Sales Page Necessary?

Hi Warriors,

I have never really put a pic of myself on my sales pages apart from when I had to prove something and even then I blurred out my face. I don't know I'm probably paranoid or something. I don't really want to be recognised when I'm walking down high street... Is this understandable?

Anyway I'm probably going to change that by actually putting my pic up on my next sales page. My question is, what kind of pose should I have. I have seen some very corny and inappropriate poses on some pages lol.

Should I stand, sit, smile, point, fold arms? Whole body shot or just the face? Lol or just do what seems right?

What are your suggestions.

Thanks
Adam

Adam the short answer is...No it's not necessary. It doesn't make much of a difference either way.

if you do decide to use one, the pose doesn't matter either. Pictures come in all forms...it depends what kind of image/brand you're trying to convey.

But if you really don't want to use a pic, you don't need to, it's not going to hurt your chance of success.

Agree and disagree. IMO most people like to know who they're dealing with, but it depends upon your niche. People are still used to walking into a store and getting information from a human, so it's nice to have that human touch on your sales page too.

However, if your picture makes you look like a sleazy used car salesman, then it may be best not to put it up.

As for people recognizing you on the high street, I'm still waiting for mobs of teenaged girls to rush me whenever I appear and toss their {deleted for the sake of decency} to me.

I can understand not wanting to be recognized around town, but that is not likely to be an issue...

If you are marketing yourself then a picture is always a good thing (unless you have a face for radio). The pose does not matter as long as it is appropriate.

A picture of yourself is not going to sell your product if the sales page is ineffective, but it just might seal the deal if someone is semi-sold on you or your product. Better than giving your money to a faceless stranger online...

Like Kevin said, people like to know who they are dealing with.

I'd agree with you on that Kevin.
People like the human touch, they like to be able to relate to others.
I'm a relative newbie to online marketing and have been struggling with what kind of profile pic to use. But I will definitely be using one asap.
I definitely think using one can be an asset. To me, my online marketing is about building strong relationships built on trust and values. I want my potential customers to be able to see that I am a real person and that they can relate to me.
If you think you have a "face for radio", then get creative, be a bit clever with the pic. Try using a sepia tone function, or a black and white pic. Make the most of what you have. (If you don't like that big pimple on your nose etc, maybe a little photo-shop work would not go astray)

        Dave.

LOL, Kevin! You mean you're not getting that kind of attention already just with your dashing good looks?!

Adam, I think it can make a difference, but it probably does depend on your niche. I wouldn't worry too much about "getting recognized" unless your product is selling to millions, which of course would be great!

Personally, in most cases (of course there are exceptions, and again depends on your target audience), I think a nice head shot is fine, and generally you should smile. And be sure it is a quality photo. If you look friendly, personable, most people will resonate with that. However, if, for example, you were trying to sell a fitness product, then a body shot (or at least upper body) showing how fit you are would be appropriate (and lend credibility to what you are selling). But to me, a picture does make it more personable...although not always necessary.

Actually it does, and it's worth testing.

I've seen BIG conversion differences with relatively small differences in a pose

And I can't for the life of me remember where I read it, but apparently ugly pictures can actually increase conversions. (Not having any of my own I can't test this :p )

Not rabid dog ugly though, more "homely".

A picture helps your potential buyer tie the product to an actual person...It is a personal touch that will help you now and in the future..not necessary but a definite plus.

By "necessary" I am assuming you mean "increases the conversion rate of your sales letter".

Only you can answer this for your specific sales letter and market.

    You gotta test it.

I've seen where it increased conversions, and also where it lowered conversions.

As far as being recognized on the street...I guess it depends on if you think you'll encounter ppl in your niche, and if you feel comfortable if you do happen to meet them.

Personally, if someone recognized me from the IM niche, I would be happy to talk with them. But with other markets...I'd rather not.

LOL, I guess not if you're in a niche like penis enlargement or anal bleaching. I can just imagine the conversations that could lead too. Not that great to be at a fancy cocktail party and having people come up and ask you how "big" you are or how (no, we won't even go there).

This is very controversial. Some say that it puts a face on the person and makes you look real, but others say that people will judge you according to gender and/or race. So it is your decision to test it.

I dont think a photo would make a huge difference in conversion. Im always skeptical when i see photos of people on a sales page. Never really know if its a legit person or not.

If you do use a photo, my suggestions would be to go with a happy snap photo, do not use a professional looking photo. I also think people could relate more if you had family members in the photo. Like maybe wife and kids or mum and dad, sisters and bros.

Best way is to answer your own question by testing and tracking different styles of photos. If you find one that converts well, stick to that.

Using a photo like my profile pic would be a top converter im sure. People would just feel sorry for me and buy my product.

    Kevin Riley,
However, if your picture makes you look like a sleazy used car salesman, then it may be best not to put it up.
What's wrong with used car salesmen, Kevin? Is it their looks or business tactics that really offend you?

I like to see who I am dealing with. It helps tremendously for credibility sake and in this day and age I cannot imagine that anyone could be worse looking than some of the creeps I see on television these days.

Put your pic up Adam and get on with it. You won't regret it and it may bring you more business and friends.

    God bless
