Advice about Facebook

I am just getting my marketing framework together. I have a Facebook profile but am wondering if it is any use.
Half my FB friends are local businesses spamming. The other half are messaging the people they saw an hour ago or will see in an hour.
What I want to do is get some meaningful business dialogue going with as many people as possible.
Should I use FB? If so, which item should I be using? Profile, Page, Group, Business?
I have read the threads here but they suggest different ones and don't say why.
Again:
I want to get some meaningful dialogue i.e messages of 70 to100 words going with as many people as possible.
Could somebody please suggest which FB item would be the best? And possibly why? The Dummies book is absolutely useless.
Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

If you're targeting businesses, then I'd suggest using LinkedIn not Facebook.

    Just my two cents.

There are many courses on the basics of Facebook marketing.

Getting a good dialogue going between your friends is very important. Try and find people in other groups as well, not just business. You can use status updates, but try and make everyday comments so people can see you are a real person.

Also, start your own group and fan pages for your business. Invite people and make sure that you give good quality value in the groups and on the fan pages. This way people will be more inclined to join and to invite their friends.

I hope this help you , let me know if you want anymore help.

I've had a Facebook fan page for about a year now and I never do any work on it. However, it picks up over a 100 followers and I notice my page is way ahead of others in the same niche on there. That said, I don't think I get many buyers from there. Facebook is just not geared up to sales.......people go there to socialise and not much else. I tried Facebook ads also recently and did not get any sales.

My experience with FB mirrors yours.

And my fan page is local based (marketing for small businesses in my area). Have 120 fans but most of those aren't even business owners. Business owners are just not responsive on FB from what I see.

However, it appears that some of the local restaurants and bars and a few retail shops are using FB to at least some degree of success, at least a few of the more savvy ones are. Mostly through sponsoring events all the time. One of my clients is just now opening a retail store and we'll take the "events" approach and see what happens.

Use your fan page for building your list. Post useful blog posts etc. Also I heard CPA works well in some niches on Facebook.

      Hi Bertus,
I'll go for a fan page. You mention blog posts. Do you mean on my Blogspot or somewhere on Facebook?
      Thanks for the reply.

I've found Facebook to be a great place to market alot of different products.

I think those groups , fan pages, and ppc work best those.

Check out my link in my signature I go over all theses things in my course.

The thing most people do is start adding friends that arent targeted which is the first huge mistake.

I've been making a ton on Facebook for 2 years.

What you need to do is search groups and find 500 targeted friends in that niche. Then then invite them to join your group and fanpage about that niche.

    Regards,
    Robert

I would suggest that a fan page is the way to go. I use that for one of my businesses and we get alot of great interaction going on. Also insentivize membership to it. It keeps people coming back and helpful. I like giving out random discounts/specials for no reason to some people just because there communicating on the page. This small gesture sends the page into a flurry of comments.
