Are there any tips or tricks to get people to leave comments?

And by this I mean on your blogs (Squidoo, Hubpages, Blogger, etc.)

It is like a call of action, and has got consistent comments.

On my affiliate blog I used to use a plugin called Wordpress Popup Scheduler. It would display a little pop-up that would ask the reader to leave a comment on our blog. It seemed to work as we had people mention that they were leaving a comment because of the pop-up.

Sure! Just ask questions within your copy! That invites comments, especially when you ask for opinions. Everyone has one and most people LOVE to give theirs!

Thanks guys and paula. I actually have over 10,000 views on my hubpages...but only about 5 comments... I wonder why? Or maybe people just dont leave comments for whatever reason.????

my best technique is to piss people off by making comments in my post or article that people are so opposed to that they have to tell me how wrong I am, such as...

It is common that to have less comments than the number of viewers.
But to be certain, people love incentive.
Maybe at the end of your post, you can offer incentive to the best comment replied.

  Sure...There are a couple of things worth mentioning:
  
  1. Compelling content elicits comments. The more authority you project the more people will want to link to it.
  
  2. And it always helps to have a subtle call to action to leave a comment, such as, "Do you have any experience with xyz. Please leave a comment and tell us what you think."
  
  And avoid the comment spammers who do not add to the conversation. They are ONLY looking for the back link.

If you're not getting many comments and you are getting lots of views then possibly you are not attracting the right audience or you are not engaging them enough to comment.

Check back with your content - how specific and targetted is it?

Check back with your writing are you giving opinions or exploring ideas or raising issues or problems? Being controversial as TPW said can get it going if that's your thing.

Hop onto some blogs/lenses that ARE getting lots of comments and see if you can work out what's working for them that you can adapt to yours.

Ask questions that allow your readers to chime in and share their experiences and expertise. (Just like you did by starting this thread. ) Everyone likes to feel important.
