On your confirmation page that tells them about confirming their email, have a "bonus" for them if they confirm their subscription.

Tell them to go to their email and look for the conformation email because you have another "bonus" freebie waiting for them right now.

Redirect your subscribers to a thank you page where you say that the url to the report is in their email.

Tell them that it is necessary for them to confirm their email address. If they do, mention that you are offering an unadvertised bonus worth $17.

This will do the trick with 70% of your optins. I believe that it's more than enough as your list will become more targetted and you will have more opens.

Always remember that you're doing your business for your customers, not the way around. It's 100 times better to have a foul-proof confirmation system for 5 years old than losing customers.

As already told - stress the need. After you got your lead, move your prospects to the page where can be something like "Check Your Email For Confirmation Please" in large red letters. Bonuses, videos, voice recordings... whatever.

I agree with the others here that say direct them to a page where it tells them they have to confirm (not everyone realises they have to do this) as well as editing the initial email they'll get. Usually it's something generic like "you need to confirm your subscription to X list" but that doesn't tell them what's in it for them. Change it to something more personal, mention any bonuses they'll be getting when they do, and so on.

I do both - take them to a page that explains they have to confirm in the eMail I have sent and just to make sure having an additional bonus when they do confirm.

Right, this also can be an issue. Especially if it's a self-hosted autoresponder solution.

If you use something like AWeber/GetResponse/etc, the possibility of filtering as spam is much lower (however, there are cases of this happening)

To test that, you should probably go through the confirmation process yourself and see how it goes. Try to use a new email account.

You may also add a screendshot of an example email telling them that they need to verify their emails and click on that link there which should be included in your "Thank You" page once people subscribe. That way, they'll be reminded that they have to check their inbox out.

Also, Aweber does support to have a voice prompt instructing them to go to their inbox and confirm too.

I have seen several top marketers who send you to a video page after you hit submit. The video gives you the reminder to check your inbox, restates the bonus for signing up, and from what these guys report their opt-in rates have jumped dramatically by using a video reminder.

Once they submit the opt-in form data, where do they go? Do they go to a download page? Or do you send them to a page stating they need to confirm before they get their [whatever you offered in exchange for their contact info]?

Yep send them to a page telling them how to confirm and offering a reason why they should like a bonus

THEN once they click the confirm link in their email....THATS when you send them to where you want them to go, like the download page etc.

OR you could do it like this:

as soon as they subscribe, take them to a page delivering what was promised, with no need to verify. then on that page offer a HUGE bonus for verifying. That way they feel like "wow, this guy gave me what I wanted right away and if I go verify my email he will give me more."

it's building trust and making them realize they wont get jerked around.

    Hey James,

As well as all the suggestions made here i.e. sending to a page that tells person to confirm and promising them a bonus once they confirm you can do something else.

Tell the person what the exact subject line of the confirmation email will be i.e.

"They'll be an email from "whoever" with the subject line "Response...". Click the confirmation link in this email and you'll get what you signed up for PLUS a FREE BONUS worth $x"

Also had a look at your confirmation page. The problem that you may be having is that there is too much going on on that page. Too many links etc.

A lot of people just have a page that says, Please confirm your email to receive your...

The page you're sending them to may be putting them off.

You could make it much plainer, just one sentence will do. It's just my opinion though.

    Good luck.

    Reach new heights,

    Nathan

Give them cool stuff bro. You gotta give people an incentive to confirm their opt in. You can even tell them this in the video or squeeze page before they give you their first opt in. Just make sure it's something you would really want to get, if it is, it will probably work really well.

Then you must deliver what you said they are going to get. Giving away cool, free stuff is by far the best and fastest way to build an awesome list.

It seems that offering your potential subscribers an " offer that they can't refuse" will bump up your conversions.

You need to study the sales/subscription funnel process of some of the top people out there. Just subscribe to one of their newsletters, then compare the similar elements and implement what they have done...

Well I'll be honest, I didn't read the entire thread, but the first question i have for you is what is the offer? Some offers shoot for a single, others a double. But again, depends on what the offer is.

Can you write your email confirmation subject line? If so carefully consider what to write.

I keep my spam filters alive on my disposable email address and carefully read what subjects get thru and which are directed into the spam folder.

Funny but most of the guru's email gets to my inbox. That email I carefully analyze.

Instead of using a subdomain for your thank you page. I'd suggest something like this:

    yourdomain.com/squeezepage/thankyou.html

trying adding a similar page to this one here > thank you for subscribing and like the rest saied dont forget to mention the "BONUS GIFT" you are giving them for FREE

it will trigger them to action

Although I think it is a great idea to give some bonus for confirming the email address, I also think that it lowers the value of the email list.

If the general offer on the squeeze page is not so attractive that people are willing to confirm the email address, then what is the point to give some bonus. They will take it, but still will never read emails.

I think that the key is to create customs thank you page, where you explain clearly that they must confirm the email address right now. Give them an explanation what they will receive in the email - from whom the email will be coming from, what is the subject line and what kind of action do you want them to do. Make it clear and explain it several times.

By the way, you can actually turn off double optin.

But if you want to use it.

    1. Give them a screen video where you SHOW them how to confirm (step by step).

Use a software like camtasia to do it.

I do not like your use of color in your message. The blue and red text makes me believe you have links, especially when you have some of it underlined.

You are making it sound like your readers do not know how to check their own email, ditch that part of your text.

I love the idea you were given by Ishan of using a video showing them the confirmation process. Start off the video with your own face telling them thank you, and explaining why they need to confirm. Then show them the Camtasia (Or Camstudio) video showing exactly how the confirmation email is going to look and what they need to do.

Center the banner at the top of your page, it will look better.

That should get you started. But the only real answer comes by you making changes, and then testing your own results.

Adding to what the Kansas Dragon said...

Why the exit-pop trap sprung on the thank you page? First you offer me something, then insult my intelligence, and finish by trying to force me to read a sales page?

No wonder so many people fail to confirm.

Depending on the niche, I use another approach with good success. Rather than appeal to greed, I use a little reciprocity.

Instead of telling them that they MUST CONFIRM, I ask them for a little help in delivering the freebie they just signed up for. They really don't care whether confirming protects you from spam complaints, but they seem very willing to click a link to let you know that email is indeed getting through to the address they furnished.

Once they do that, I give them the freebie along with a little 'thank-you' gift for the extra favor - increasing the reciprocity a notch higher.
