VIRUS THREAT: Fake LinkedIn confirmations

Be careful with those confirmation e-mails from LinkedIn (or supposedly LinkedIn). Take a look at the one below. Looks just like the real thing. However, when I clicked on the link to go to LinkedIn and view the invitation, my AVG blocked it and warned of a threat. A mouse over the link and a look at the status bar revealed a .info URL.

Be careful!

Thanks for the head's up, Kevin. This one would be especially effective on those of us who accept LinkedIn requests without much thought. And you're right, it looks like the real thing.

Perhaps it's time for me to ignore the e-mails and log in to LinkedIn to see who's making "real" requests.

    All the best,
    Michael

Yeah, I got at least 10 of those today. I rarely have to think twice about deleting these type of phishing/scam/scam because of the multiple specific email addresses I use.

For anyone who has their own domain name and doesn't use forwarding email addresses for different things, I highly recommend it...

I've got my "root" email address, but for anything else I sign up with it's:
    list1 @ myemail.com
    linkedin@ myemail.com
    affiliate2 @ myemail.com
    bank1 @ myemail.com
    etc, etc...

And they all just forward to my main email.

So when I get phishing scams, it's hardly ever relevant: I might get a "Your banking info has been hacked, log in now", but they send it to my list1 address. Or I get a "Your Paypal password needs to be verified", but they send to my linkedin email, etc, etc.

It's by far the easiest and safest way to never be tempted to B.S. emails like that. Plus, if any email forwarding address gets too much spam, etc, you can just delete the forwarding email and create a new one.

    Highly recommended.

OMG, Kevin! your post is so timely! I've been getting around 6 or so of these emails a day for the past 3 days or so.

Heads up people, there's a fake Facebook one going around too. So be extra careful about clicking on links in emails. Let your cursor hover on the link and look at the status bar. You will clearly see the link doesn't take you to LinkedIn or Facebook.

Thanks ....been getting a lot of them lately but have ignored them. Now I'll doubly ignore them. Never thought of them being a threat.

I've been getting a rash of these messages lately. I just delete them. Didn't even think to see if they're some new spoofing trick, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Just be sure you read any message BEFORE you hit the hyperlink. It's so common nowadays and it's not only LinkedIn.
