The ONE pop-up I actually paid attention to

I hate pop-ups and slide-ins, with the exception of those attractive little bottom-of-the-page slide ups. If I'm on a sales page and when I navigate away a pop-up jumps up as I'm trying to leave, I get rid of it as quickly as I can. However...

I was on a site this week (and for the life of me, I can't recall which) but when I tried to close the pitch page, a pop-up jumped up and all of the sudden some AUDIO started to roll out of my speakers. Basically, the site owner (a male) started out by saying:

"Before you leave, I'd like just one more chance to tell you about my offer.
Please give me three minutes to listen to this audio, and after that if you still aren't interested, then..."

To be frank, I listened to the entire 3 minutes or so of audio. With a regular pop-up I'd dismiss the window and move on without reading it. The audio really got my attention.

Ultimately I didn't buy, but to be honest I really wasn't on the site looking to buy in the first place.

I'm just the opposite - I always shut any audio off because I much prefer reading.

I don't care for the autoplay audios or videos at all - I like to read first and then play the other stuff if I want more info.

There's a lot of people who will disagree with me on that but there's others who will agree. That's why there's so many ways to do things.

I agree with Lynn.. that would make me shut off the site sooner. I tend to listen to music or audio programs while working, so if some site makes an obnoxious sound, I tend to close it faster than ever.
