Newbie ebook question

Hello,
Just found a decent niche that is not covered too often and decided to write an ebook.
MY issue is, I have written the ebook in msword, no problem, but I will be having a affiliate link that im using through cj.com . now most of these links are either html or java.
how do i go about embedding this in word? I dont think this is possible, and modifying the code, you risk the chance of it not working properly.

I have lost sleep on this little detail...any help would be great.

Regards

You can insert hyperlinks into Word documents.

Highlight the words yo want to be a link, then right cilck the mouse. There hsould be Insert HYperlinks or some such available from the pop up menu.

Alternative, you could go to Insert-->Hyperlink and add it that way.

Once you get the Add Hyperlink form, just paste in your link.

I found it's good practice to put two versions of the link, a regular link and and the affiliate link, like:

Buy teh Big Blue Widget [reg] [aff]

Where reg is a regualr link and aff is the affilaite link. I've actualyl found when people are aware of the difference and actually have a choice, they actually click more on the aff link that you would expect.

OK im gonna rephrase my entire question because I realized i've wrote it and I hardly understand what im saying...

If you were to write an ebook. And you are going to be using affiliate links, but these links are given to you in HTML format.
What do you do? How do you apply them to your ebook. ?
Being Im using word, it will not allow HTML, unless Im mistaken.

          thank you guys

As mentioned inserting links in Word is simple - I believe Control-K does the trick.

You may consider doing your product in Open Office instead. Once you finish your book you'll want to publish it as a PDF document, and Open Office makes that easy (although to be fair so does MS Office 2010), and your hyperlinks will work fine.

BTW, you probably mean "JavaScript", not "Java" - the two are in no way related. Neither is an option for an eBook.

I'm afriad I still don't understand what you mean.

If you have an affialite link, simply copy the href= part and follow the process I talked about above to make it a link in Word.... that will imbed your affilaite link into the Word document making whatever word(s) you selected the link.

Try this way instead, it seem s to be a bit simpler and then you will have more control over the links in your book.

Make the links in your ebook go to pages on your site where you put the link code.

Put a big sign over the link on your page that says Click to continue.

If you have a different sort of link without HTML, just make a redirect page on your site.

If you do make pages on your site where the links from your ebook go, then you can change where the links form your site go.

This is good because advertisers change up their links all the time, or donl't pay their CJ dues and get dropped or something else. If you have the links in your ebook go to their page instead of yours, you are now going to miss all the clicks you could be getting from your existing ebook copies.

And you don''t have to change your ebook and send out corrected versions.

it is a bit more work upfront, but saves you more work afterwards and gives you the possibility of retaining clicks from ebooks already out there.

There also might be a way to set up a redirect page using part of the code they give you from CJ, but I don't know what it would be except for cutting off the part of the link where the tracking pixel is. perhaps someone else knows of some way to do that.

Is this an issue to do with adding a banner, if so just add the image and add a hyper link to that.

Im pretty sure I understand what you mean not used CJ for a while but seem to remember they tell you not to mess with the code, else it may affect tracking.

Your probably best of contacting your contact at CJ for that offer and explaining your problem, they may just give you an image and a seperate affiliate URL that you can use togther

What you are trying to do is actually very simple. There are 2 ways, and I just tried it with an older version of Word. It works there too.

#1 way is to write something like "Click Here" in your Word doc. Then highlight those words (the Click Here), and go to the Word toolbar above. One of the tools is "Insert" and within the "Insert" tool is "HTML." Click that.

In there you will find a space where you type the entire HTML of your entire affiliate link, begining with the http://www.websiteand affiliate code. Word will turn "Click Here" blue and automatically underline it so people know it is a link.

When someone reading your ebook clicks on the "Click Here" it will take them to your affilate site.

#2 Another way is to just type out the entire link - the same thing you would put into the address in IE or Firefox. Word will turn the link blue, and make it clickable. The problem with this way is, your ebook will then show your entire affiliate link.

Then once your .doc is finished, turn it into a .pdf. Word will do this with the free plugin from MS, or you can get Open Office (also free - it is a MS Office look-alike), open your Word doc in Open Office, and expeort it as a .pdf.

I like OO's .pdf generator better.
