I have been thinking about this, though i have some hot niches blogger "blogspot.com" sites which are generating some few dollars through clickbank affiliate & google adsense.

I notice a lot of people here are talking more about wordpress paid blog than the free blog site.

My question is are the free blogs going out of town now or do people still use them online? Thanks for your contrubution.

WordPress the script is also free. The hosting/domain is not free

People use and will continue to use free blogs... the issue is you don't have control over it. The owner of the site can delete/remove your blog if they don't like it.

Horvath, Thank you for responsiding. i personally use blogger free blog site. I agree your blog url will includes their domain name [blogspot.com] But they doesnt place any unwanted ads on your blog.

Deleting/ removing of your blog will only occur when you violent their rules.
I have some free hosting Affliate & adsense blogs that have lasted upto 4 years now.

      Wordpress Paid blog involves:
      * Buying a domain name
      * Buying A hosting
      * Wordpress installation
      * Buying of Themes, Header etc

While This free blogs host like blogger are all for free
and will also produce the same result, I guess.

So Can't people with No or little use it instead of going for paid blog?

Blogger (google) recently went on a spree of removing "deal" blogs that are in my niche. One friend of mine would gets around 20000 uniques a day, has been featured on national talks shows and has a Facebook following of around 70,000 had her blog deleted for spam.

And I had the Closeout Kid deleted- I tried to reinstate it and they "confirmed" it was spam. Now this was a completely legit blog that included giveaways, book reviews, original articles, current deals and real freebies.

But Google took it away, because they felt like it.

All my friends and I are switched over to Wordpress now- it's a bummer to pay for it, but in the end it is a cheap investment into your business.

I think the only thing I would ever use Blogger for was if I were to set up a site and see if I could get any traffic to the custom domain- since I could host for free in the testing phase. If it looked like traffic were to start coming in I would switch over to WP right away.

Oh, it's ok- but we did lose some momentum of the site- we were down for around 3 weeks since it is not my primary site and I had to plow through the learning curve of wordpress. But it did make the transition much easier when I moved Frugal, Freebies and Deals (that blogspot address did not get shut down and still exists forwarding to my new wp site).

I think if your site is just making a very tiny income it is not much of a risk to keep on blogger- because if you lose it it's not much of a loss.

But if you are making any amount of income or potential income at the least make sure you are on a custom domain- so if they delete you can transfer it or just make the wp switch so the stress of possibly losing it is not there.

I recently read a story about a friend of mine who had a free blog on a web 2.0 site that was making thousands of dollars a month. His competitors didn't like all the traffic he was getting, so they flagged the page and it was taken down without any real explanation. This is why most of your income should be coming from your own sites.

I would still use sites like blogger, but don't make it the foundation of your business. These sites can and will shut you down if they want. Even newbies should build their own sites right away. Your money site is the foundation of a niche, and you don't want to build it on sand!

Alexa, i respect your veiw and others. No doubt about it Paid blogs [WP] are better than free blogs [Blogger] But in the way testing a niche or for new starters who dont have a lot to spend starting online. The can use this free blog to start instead of procrastinating.

i'm sharing talking from my own personal experience, i used those blogs to start my online business. my first clickbank affiliate sale was made through my free blogger. And have made some few adsense cash from it too.

I have Now upgrade to wordpress [paid blogs] now and run some few of them too. Both of the free & paid are working for me.

I don't mind if google delete them one day, sale the blogger.com site off or even change their terms and condition. i'm no longer relying on them even though i started from them.

That's my own view and i respect yours too.

Below is a SAMPLE of our New Coming soon Blogging eBook that we will publish and give it for FREE to WarriorForum members.

    Introduction
Nowadays there are many different ways of building a website. Whilst experienced webmasters will still build their websites in HTML, the truth is that now it is not necessary any more to know a website scripting language in order to be able to build an effective website.

Over the past few years, the internet has seen the growth of many content management systems through which it is possible to build a highly effective website in a very short period of time. However, perhaps the most successful website creation resource is WordPress. Whilst true content management systems like Joomla and Drupal have many attractions, the fact is that WordPress has become the ‘de facto’ website building system of choice for the majority of online marketers.

Because of this, thousands of people have created add-ons or plug-ins for WordPress that have significantly enhanced its usability and flexibility. In addition, there are hundreds of free site templates (or themes as they are known in the WordPress world) that enable you to make your site look almost any way you want it to as well.

Consequently, there is almost nothing that you cannot do using WordPress as the basis of your website. For this reason, an increasingly large number of people are using WordPress as their site building tool of choice.

WordPress is not perfect – no site building system ever is – but as a shortcut to creating an incredibly effective website in a matter of a few moments, it would be difficult to find anything that is more effective than WordPress.

This book is going to show you exactly how you can manipulate WordPress to create a superbly effective website quickly and simply.

Let us therefore start to look at how you set up WordPress in the first place.....

I hope that this helps your question. also with Wordpress you can increase your profits by 100 times if you plan the theme/design and the plugins

i prefer using my own hosted blogs on my domains. i'm a control freak. plus i'm beginning to hate blogger's interface.

however i will use free blogs for backlinks to my money sites and affiliate promotions. i'm setting up a linkwheel for a new product I've got coming out this week.

Don't forget that you can go down the wordpress route for free. If you get free hosting at byethost and use one of their domains you get rid of the only expenses.

Its not ideal but equal, then, in cost to blogger with the important difference that you have control.

As you grow, you can switch all to their paid hosting which is about $3 a month and also get your own domain names (you get one free with a yearly account). Very good value.

There are thousands of good themes out there for free and I think, to date, I have only ever paid for one plug in.

People still use free blogs, but free blogs are rife with spam...

The problem in my book is letting a third-party control your revenue...

I used to have several blogs on blogspot that were serving me well... But Blogger (owned by Google) in its infinite wisdom decided my blogs were spam blogs... Blogger turned them off... Then I went thru the manual process to have them turned back on... One week later, they turned em off again... Rinse and repeat... After walking thru the human verification process five times to get my blogs turned back on, I gave up and let them go when Blogger turned me off the sixth time...

Many of them had excellent search rankings, good traffic, and real revenue... But it quickly became clear that they were not turning me off because they did not think I was caring for them... They turned me off six times in 3 months...

You know the problem with Wordpress was I thought it was always sooo techy and Im a simple creative type so I liked blogger and started with them and now that they introduced their custom domain function I was planning on converting my 1st successful blog to a .com but was scared it would loose all its inbound links and id have to start all over again with it so I left it and started building another site.

But after reading this it appears I should start prepping for the transition to wordpress just in case, but its just that WP looks soooo techy with its control panel and stuff.

Then again I've also thought up a kind of ''Back up Plan'' for my next blogger blog while I learn wp slowly.

1st of all custom domain the blog
2nd of all copy and paste in notepad the template to back it up
3rd copy and paste the html for each post and page in notepad aswell to back it up.

So with these safeguards say you have a five page niche site you can easily get back up and running if anything goes wrong with blogger i.e you can easily reinstall that same blog under the custom domain or

Point the custom domain name to a created wordpress blog if you're really annoyed and just copy and paste the html codes into the pages and posts or you can copy and paste the text itself into the new wp pages and posts

Obviously I'd prefer html copy and pasting cos you get to keep links and images that way.

But from now on it seems I should be custom domaining my blogs from the start instead of building it to the 1st page of google as a .blogspot.com and then realising its better to have had it in the .com crew before it got that successful.

Ah well thats the fun of the road to success you can't be scared of rejections cos they are all a bunch of IMing life lessons.
