Tumblr account got suspended

Hi,

About a week ago my tumblr account was suspended. When I contacted them for the reason, they said that they do not allow keyword marketing or affiliate marketing.

Wonder if any of you had the same experience as it is interruptive to what I have spent effort and time to build

Thanks!

amen brotha! Yeah everything online is traced and if you have affiliate links it's so easy for them to ban you. If your content looks and smells like spam, you will be banned.

I would suggest not doing affiliate marketing on these status social websites. Better have it on Hubpages and share it over Twitter for instance.

Why not get your own site and use these sites like Tumblr for backlinks. Respect the sites like Tumblr by not putting affiliate links on them, link back to your own site where you can have the affiliate links.

    Just a suggestion.

It's just a waste of time putting links to affiliate products on sites like this use them to get backlinks for sites or even your articles

Hope it's OK that I bring this thread up, but I was wondering how the account got supsended when some of the highly "popular" blogs on tumblr have ads integrated all over and still aren't suspended?

    This for instance. Highly NSFW!
    art-or-porn.com

I mean, there are ads all over and I think the blog is now online for 2-3 years. So what made them delete your account and not theirs? Or is he using a different advertising method?

We all read the complete terms and conditions don't we?
We all read all the FAQ's don't we?

How many times have we all signed a new contract, or signed up for something and found out it was not as we thought what it was.

Called "just initial here and sign the bottom."

If they're like other platforms, it may not be the destination that's the problem (other than the obvious TOS violations). Sometimes it's the way it's linked. The OP mentioned 'keyword marketing' along with affiliate marketing, and many of the subsequent posts mention using tumblr for backlinks. Think there might be a connection?

If the content the OP put their time/work into was obviously made just for generating keyword backlinks, it's no wonder they got kicked to the curb.

The appearance of randomness often just means that some type of software filter saw a pattern that you don't. The 'offending' account wasn't trying to do anything shady, but happened to do something that resembled the footprint of those who were.

It's like I say..."You may not be a duck, but if you fly with the flock eventually you're going to get shot at."

If you can't appeal, then forget about Tumblr & move on. There are other web 2.0 properties you can use for affiliate marketing like Squidoo, Hubpages, article directories, etc.

Alternatively, you can buy your own domain & build Wordpress sites.

As Felicia said just get over it and go to the 100s of other web 2.0s out there and get back to work. Even though this was posted a year ago LOL

I find that if you only have 1 link in your blog it's fine. If you make 2 or more, they ban the blog and the account. Was that the case?

Did you read Tumblr's rules before doing that? To avoid your account from being banned.

A description of tumblr from google:

      Hi folks,

I too had my Tumblr account suspended.

I had no links pointing from my Tumblr blog directly to my money site (except for the option to add my own custom URL, for "liking" other Tumblr posts).

In fact, on one of my Tumblr accounts, I only "liked" two other Tumblr posts (in an attempt to get high power backlinks of course), one was a PR6 and the other a PR7... and this alone was enough to get me banned.

      Another problem with Tumblr:
Every time I have tried to customize my account appearance using one of their Free Themes, even tho I click on "save" etc. it doesn't seem to stick.

The only thing I seem to be able to change is the title... replacing the "Untitled" with something else.

I have now tried this on Safari and Firefox, on both Mac and PC... No joy!!!

I appreciate that Tumblr will most likely want people to add content and therefore value to it's user accounts, instead of "just" using it's services to get High PageRank backlinks... but, if you can't even customize the appearance, they aren't making it very easy for us.

      - Anyone else experience this problem? - please let me know how you got round it.

      Thank you for reading *

It's annoying. I'm having to use IE. Now I'm using ifftt.com to hook in my g+ posts to tumblr. Is it easy to naturally gain tumblr followers or do I have to get out there and grind?

You can put affiliate links on Tumblr, but it has to be in a non-spammy way. If all your posts are built to make people buy something, I bet you'll get kicked in no time. If you put the time and efforts to build a crowd that is interested in whatever you share with them, there will be no problems placing an affiliate link that is related to something that provides genuine value to your audience.

Normally to spam something, when they've found the thread through a search engine because they were looking for something related to drop in their spam. But then before the moderators have a chance to delete it, two or three others, not noticing the date of the OP, add replies on. I don't know who did what, in this instance - I'm "just saying": that's normally how it happens. Not all that easy to avoid it altogether, really. :p

Still, no harm done, this time: it's always a good reminder for people not to depend on these services on which you can never own or control "your" pages and will permanently be at someone else's mercy, idiosyncratic interpretations of changeable TOS, and so on.
