Switching from Adsense to Affiliate Marketing..what should I need to know?

I currently am only earning freaking pennies from Adsense sites so I am going to give affiliate marketing a whirl instead since I hear rave reviews about how much better it seems to be than sites made for Adsense.

I currently understand SEO and how to gain traffic to my sites and things of this sort so my main question is:

What should I know about affiliate marketing that would be different from Adsense?

I've ran into a few keywords that I don't understand like squeeze pages, etc.

If you could sum up the process of what to do after you have a product in mine to promote that would be awesome and would save me a real headache.

    With Adsense your goal is just to make them click the ads. With affiliate marketing your goal is to make them buy. This means the way you write articles / look of your landing page will be different. You must pre-sell to the visitor then make them buy the product through your aff-link.

    If you are going into affiliate marketing make sure you capture their name and email address. You can just direct them to a sales page but its easier to capture their name
    with a free offer then try and sell them on a One Time Offer


    Your list of prospect are there to market to whenever you feel like as long as you keep building that asset as big as you can. Also separate freebie seekers from buyers

      The key is getting the customer to take baby steps that build up the relationship. If they scroll down on the page for more free info, they can then click a link for more free info, then submit their email for free info.
      After sending em quality content for a while they may then trust you enough to buy a product.

        So affiliate marketing is more about the list than having customers find you by SEO measures and buying right away?

        A possible idea would be to create a free ebook about something they "might" be interested in and give it to them free in exchange for their name / email address then promote the actual product down the road by email?
