Differnet Google Rankings Depending On Computer and Browser?

I've been monitoring my Google rankings, and they are going up, but depending on the computer and the browser I'm using, my rankings are completely different. The biggest example I can give is that on one computer using IE, I'm in the 2nd position of the first page, while getting ranked on page 13 using a different computer in my house. I was really hyped seeing my site in the second position, but finding out I was getting no traffic at all really put an end to my 'I finally made it' smile. Also, I'm ranked on page 17 and 13 using Firefox.

I have cleared my cookies, I'm not logged into my Google account and I'm using the same Internet connection. Does anyone know why this is happening?

I've heard from a bunch of different sources that Google is becoming really unreliable for that kind of information. You may want to look for a different way to track your traffic.

Hi kev.. What kinda process do you use in checking your keyword rankings?

I tried checking my keyword in IE,Google Chrome and Firefox but then they give me same results.

I'm using https://adwords.google.com/select/Ad...ingPreviewTool for checking it...

We've noticed here in Austin some SERP variations based on browser and platform. It is also rumored that Google uses a variation of browser fingerprinting and no longer needs cookie data (see panopticlick[dot]eff[dot]org for more information).

The best way to test is to use proxies - either directly or through tools that use proxies like Market Samurai

hello, that is strange. here is the tool i use to monitor my ranks, PR, and backlinks:

i have found it to be fairly reliable and it genearlly agrees with my going to google when i'm logged out without cookies, as you say. there's also mike's marketing tools and the two of them are usually pretty close to each other's results.
