Hi... I'm in the UK and have got an Amazon Associates account(UK). I'm just about to launch a site targeting an American audience, so will need to get a .com account or will my code for the above automatically point to amazon.com?

thanks in advance guys.

If you want to make some real money, get a .com as you have more control than just giving out affiliate links.

The links are country-specific. The UK affiliate link will point to the UK site, no matter where the visitor is from.

    Sharger,

Be sure to sign up through associates.amazon.com to get a US Amazon affiliate account for your American site.

The other thing to note is the payouts. I get gift certificates cause I suck with Amazon and they pay on the .com. I can not transfer them to buy things on the .ca here in Canada.

Yeah you'll need to sign up at .com or else you won't make money - US customers will only buy from Amazon.com (usually) so you won't make any commissions by sending them to .co.uk

As for the commissions, I'm also from the UK and yeah it is a pain that the US affiliate program won't pay direct deposits to foreign affiliates. But you can still pay in US cheques into UK bank accounts (though they take ages to clear) or use a service like "Auctionchex"

I think the best thing to do is get a .com or a .net as they will greatly increase your potential for income
