Might hire someone to market my art and canvas prints
I’ve given this idea some consideration. Partnering with someone that can market my artwork and canvas prints might be the best option for me.
Although I might be a fantastic artist, selling and marketing are not my strong points. Sure, I’ll very likely try some of the ideas presented to me in my other thread, but that will likely remain local.
I would like to market my artwork on a larger scale than just my city and surrounding the area. I don’t have the time to take this on myself. In what time I do have to devote to this project, I think my energy would be best spent on the artwork itself.
My proposal is to have one of you act as my agent. You are free to market and advertise my name and my artwork however you see fit. In return I will pay 25% of anything you can sell. If you can sell a portrait for $200, then $50 of that is yours.
You get a digital image from the client and e-mail it to me along with any details such as size, changes in colours or backgrounds, etc… When the art is finished, I will ship directly to the client.
Paying through PayPal works for me. If I am paid by the client, I will send you your share. I don’t even mind if the client pays you. In that event, you would deduct your 25% and PayPal the remainder to me.
I will include boxes and materials for shipping, plus the cost of shipping in the prices we advertise. So if we sell a $200 portrait, you take your $50 and out of my $150 I pay for the shipping plus materials, and I obviously pay for the ink, canvas, wood, and maintenance on my printer. If I’m left with $100 on that original $200 sale then that’s mine.
I will include a professional website where my work is available to view before purchasing, and I will also provide you with business cards to distriute as you wish. I can also send you samples that you can carry with you for anything local that you wish to show.
If I do partner with someone, there is some fine print. You are not allowed to market my work as your own! Meaning that when you sell, I am mentioned as the artist. I sign all my work anyway. You can introduce yourself as my agent, but you are not allowed to pass my work off as your own. You are also not permitted to register my name anywhere without my consent. That means at any forums or message boards, you can’t register my name and post as if you were me.
Details such as sizes and prices will be worked out and agreed upon before beginning this venture.
