GotoWebinar.com - My Experiences

Hello Warriors -

THe other night, I hosted my first Tele-Training over http://www.AllAboutGratitude.com. I used Web Conferencing | GoToMeeting. I wanted to share my personal experiences that I had so everyone can glean off of my learning. WIth that said, if anyone has and suggestions/advice/tips and can point out any solutions to the issues I encountered, I am happy to hear them!

First off, I am a Mac user/enthusiast! Naturally, I signed up for my free trial on my mac. Configuring my first official Webinar was straight forward. It was simply a matter of clicking dates and times, filling in some descriptive fields, uploading my banner and picture (for branding purposes) and I was good to go! That was nice and easy!

During the afternoon of the call, I felt that I should practice hosting the call before going live! My day job has me using WebEx (very similar to gotoWebinar) so I was confident I knew what I was doing (hence there was no urgency on my part to 'practice'). Needless to say, I certainly am glad that I did!

Long story short, the Mac version of the hosting is not as complete as the PC version! (No need to start any Mac vs. PC wars). I had some struggles followed by a call to Tech Support to confirm my suspicions. One real 'killer' that did me in was that you cannot record the webinar on a Mac! This can only be done on a PC. The other 'missing feature' is that you cannot show ONLY a window or application when hosting on a Mac. The entire desktop gets shown on a Mac. This means that if I hosted a session on my Mac, everyone on the call would see my desktop picture, all my icons, and anything else that was running or open.

Finally, I have 2 monitors hooked up to my Mac. With GotoWebinar, only the primary monitor can be shown. This was an issue because the Mac version of PowerPoint (when running with 2 monitors) has the primary monitor used for the presenter (i.e., all the notes are visible there) and the secondary monitor gets the presentation. There was no way to have gotoWebinar broadcast the secondary monitor (I guess I could have dug around in PowerPoint to see how to flip the two, but it was getting too late for that).

All in all, I ended up hosting the Tele-Training on my PC - not my primary choice, but given the 'issues' I had on my Mac, I had no choice.

I just wanted to let everyone know of this incase you were looking to host a conference call and you were thinking of using your "superior" computer - your Mac.

Be Well.
Paul.
