Can someone explain this to me? "Social Networking" and "RSS Feeds"

Hey,

I've been asking a lot of questions lately now that I'm really trying to get things going.

I have a blog (been updating it for about 3 and a half months now) and I already have a page rank of 4 (I think that's good) and I'm getting about 40,000 page views a month and that number is consistantly growing.

I hear a lot about "social bookmarking" on here and I'm really not exactly sure what that is and how I can use it to draw more traffic to both my website and the articles I submit to the article directories.

Also, can someone please explain how I can use RSS feeds (I have "feedburner" installed on my blog) to get additional traffic?

My site can be viewed at Fight Passport so if there's anything else that you feel I'm missing on there in terms of traffic generation, please point it out.

Thanks in advance,

Bill

Social Bookmarking is a way to get some quick traffic and build page rank / authoritative links to your website. Essentially, you "tag" your URL and other people will visit it through these social networks, sometimes they'll be able to vote on it.

Some great resources to do this quickly (and save time)

As far as RSS feeds you can bookmark these, too and they might show up in the search engines and give you some traffic. Also, the more places you submit your RSS feeds to, the more opportunity you have to get backlinks and traffic to your website.

However, I personally can't claim to be an expert with RSS feeds. Someone else can give you more information with that one

"Social bookmarking" is all about having provocative content that can get a lot of votes on sites such as Digg.com, Delicious, and StumbleUpon. To have success with social bookmarking you need content rich articles, great titles, and some luck. It also helps if you can build a network of friends on these sites to help promote your submissions (but I find that often the best results are when someone else submits your site).

RSS is not a source of new traffic - it is more of a way to build reader loyalty and retain visitors in the hopes that they'll save your RSS feed and come back to visit your site again when reading your feed in the future.

Social bookmarking is all about sites like Digg. People "digg" a page on your site, which is kind of like voting for it. The more people that "digg" it the more people will see it on the main Digg site. The more people that see it on Digg the more traffic you'll get.

In order to take advantage of social bookmarking have a look at the Share This plugin for Wordpress. Its easy to setup and use and adds buttons for people to "vote up" your site on all the main social bookmarking sites.

RSS stands for really simple syndication. It publishes your content in a standard format which means feed readers can take it and display it. Lots of people prefer to get content from sites in their feed readers rather than going to all the individual sites themselves. There's also lots of sites that publish and search such feeds, which can only be good for you because people find your stuff and end up on your site.

Feed Burner is a great tool that will publish your RSS feed for you. Your blog then hands off responsibility for it to Feed Burner and you don't have the extra server requirements of all those feed reads updating all the time.

As a final note you're running an out of date version of Wordpress (2.5.1), which has known security issues. You should definitely consider upgrading it to the most recent version.

    Hey MuayThaiGuy,
There are some pretty good videos on youtube that explain the concept of RSS pretty well. This video is basically from the user's perspective:

RSS *can* be a source of new traffic, as the major feed aggregator sites are popular places where many flock to stay up to date on various topics. I tend to believe results are very niche-dependent.

One of the major benefits of marketing with RSS feeds is the ability to gain backlinks to your site.
