That is an excellent tip!

Just think of the variations or options for the "image"!

Funny, but completely useless against anyone that has even half of a clue. Unfortunately, if you don't want your stuff to be copied, you are better off just never posting it online

It's well known how many people will simply copy/paste directly to there blogs, it's more common than you think.

Even many scraper bots will grab the image while creating their cloned html pages.

Best!

I'm sure it is fairly common, all I was pointing out is that it won't work against someone who knows what they are doing.

As far as a data miner, or content scraper goes, it just depends on whether it is set up to to take only the html, or to exclude certain tags, or whatever. Another thing to consider is the paths in the image tags. On Wordpress, all paths are absolute by default, or prefixed by the URI of the website, but this isn't the norm on most websites, which usually use relative paths (/path/to/image.jpg).

Although I think it would usually be a wasted effort, if there is another website that is a habitual offender against your blog, it would definitely be a funny prank, and possibly deter them from doing it again, if they're not too bright.

Those who have half a clue would know how to write their own copy rather than steal it.

most people wouldn't copy and paste the html - its the content they want. So that suggests the trick wouldn't be very effective. Still amusing, if it works, of course.

I read the comments as well and his whole idea was to get the people that were not smart enough to get around this.

The point of this trick is just to expose the idiots for what they are.

In most cases, if you highlight the post and copy it (Ctrl-C or Edit-> Copy) it would grab the formatting as well (which would include image tags within the selection) so if you pasted to MS Word, or into most WYSIWYG editors, the tag would quietly sit there until the image was changed, at which point it would become a lot more noticeable.

The reason most people plagiarize is they don’t have any confidence in their writings. I got that from one of the copywriters in our forum. I’m sorry, but I don’t remember his name. He referred us to a site. I must admit that I did a little of that myself, but not anymore. It makes me feel uncomfortable, like have a mink coat on where its 95 degrees outside.

This wont really stop copying because most of these thieves don't even visit their own blog pages (auto stealing).

I think I might leave the small image in there though with an embedded link back to me.

Nice idea. It really gets under my skin when some one steals my content from my site word for word. It happens all the time. I usually send them a cease letter based on many different reasons.

good resource, i've often wondered if those people who sell articles for so much per so many words are just copying them and sending them to others for money
