The biggest market after US

Just saw the stocks drop again in US. Federal Reserve report showed manufacturing in the Philadelphia region unexpected contracted in August, fueling concern the economic recovery is in peril.

So it makes me think what is the biggest online market after US? Any statistics for this?

It's a good question. If i went simply by visitor stats to my sites over the years i'd say it was the UK, because thats the second country after US. But that cant be right because the population isnt that large.

Perhaps if we took the EU as a block that might be more realistic.

China could be another possibility. Even if only 10% of their population are living on par with western standards that's still over 100 million! But how many of them search in English? Probably next to none.

Perhaps there's a niche there for someone. SEO optimising sites for the Chinese market. Then again, would Chinese comsumers go online to but goods from western affiliate markets selling products that are probably made in China?

The US and UK internet markets are interlocked. Because of the shared values etc. To that you can add in the fringes, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
