Need Help with Gimp

OK, when it comes to installing scripts, setting up websites, writing html, I have no problem.

But when it comes to doing graphics, I bury my head in the sand.

I finally broke down & downloaded Gimp. I have a bunch of PLR PSD files to use.

Now, how the H*** do I open up the layers to edit the text, change effects, ect. ?

I'm totally lost !

I have a new site that I need to get a header done for. I have ebooks I need to do the graphics for, I have, I have..... you get the idea.

Can anyone tell me how to do this ?

Any help appreciated.

    I'm not sure if I've got the latest version, but open the image in GIMP and just go to "Dialogs" and you'll see "Layers" Just select the layer you want to edit. Oh yeah and it's either gotta be a psd file or xcf file to see the layers if any, you can still edit other types of files but you won't see the layers.

    Bring up Gimp, click file then click open and then find your file and bring it up.Go back to Gimp and click file again and in the box click dialogs then click layers. The layer for the file you brought up will then show.

    Two options if using 2.6 the layers tab is now located in the windows tab at the top right in dockable dialogs. Alt just press f7.

    As for text layers using a psd file gimp will not recognize these as text but as a image layer.

    I've played with GIMP enough to realize that on Windows at
    least it's kind of heavy. I use Paint.net generally and it's
    simple to learn and loads faster. For a lot of stuff it's just fine.

      Tim Carter has a real good video on Gimp. Now that you mention it, I need to dig around my hard drive to find it myself.
