    • What I want to know is if this figure includes auctions that don't actually close. I cover the most active and top selling auctions on Flippa on my blog and you wouldn't believe the number of sites that don't actually close. There was one week where two of the top sellers were relisted the following week because apparently the buyers bailed when they "sold" the first time around.

I'm seeing more and more auctions relisted because buyers don't follow through. It seems to be a problem at Flippa right now.

If my gut feeling is correct - that they count all auctions that end as "sold" (regardless of whether they actually close or not), then this figure is exaggerated. Still though, they had a good week.

I'm sure you are right. I am sure that sites that "sell" and then the buyer doesn't pay are still counted as sites that sold and buyers not paying is an increasingly big problem on Flippa. Their blog is always about how not to get ripped off by the evil sellers but rarely ever goes into how not to get ripped off by evil buyers and really, outside of banning them, there's little they can do about all the fake buyers.

I've been thinking a lot about this too and one thing I think they could do is have a scammer/non-payer section of the site where people can post the names and details of people who have scammed them or not paid.

Of course this would have to be moderated by Flippa and every post would have to be approved before showing up to ensure that people aren't going around giving others bad names for no reason, but I think it could work if implemented correctly.

For example, I just recently had a "buyer" that never paid me for the auction he won of mine, and I had his Skype details as well as his email address because we actually talked a little before he bid on the auction.

If there was a section on Flippa like I mentioned above, I could go on there and post not only his Flippa name, but his Skype and email information as well so that if he tries to do the same thing to someone else, they can just go and do a search to see if he comes up in the scammer section.

The only issue I can see arising from this is people being falsely accused but that's why everything would have to be moderated by Flippa. I do think it could work though.

What also doesn't help at all is it's so easy to get a high trust rating on Flippa. All you need to do is connect an established Facebook and LinkedIn account and you're already at like +7 trust rating.

Yeah ... lol. Like any scammer on the Net doesn't have a LinkedIn and Facebook account. Real trust factor there.

Hey Travis, I was thinking the same thing. I took a quick look and one of the sites they list for having this great week which sold on Flippa for $10,700 the account that sold it is suspended so I don't believe that sale is going to actually close...

        http://flippa.com/users/382069/trust-breakdown

Just about everyone I've talked to who has flipped has been burned by a non-payer at least once (including me) so it would be very interesting to see the actual amount from that million dollar week.

I'm not slamming Flippa, I like them. I don't know what more they could do to prevent dead beats but that number is probably a bit inflated. I'm not sure if eBay does the same thing when reporting their numbers.

Still for all the "selling sites" is dead fodder this says differently.

I think you have a point there Travis. One of my friend experienced same thing not long ago.

It is hard to believe that Flippa has been around for over a year already. Seems like it just launched and people were tearing it apart on SitePoint. Seems like the SP guys knew what they were doing and have a successful site on their hands.

Does anyone other than tvanslooten have a blog about buying and selling websites?

I bought ArticlesThatRock on Flippa and it took 2 excruciatingly long months to complete the transfer, and did not receive everything that was promised. Let the buyer beware.
