I don't usually have a lot of luck with article writing (dyslexia + article submission=FAIL!)

but apparently this particular article worked.

I put an article in ezine articles for my new eCourse, it was approved yesterday and if you type "get rank 1" in to Google my article is in the top spot

Finally an article of mine did something useful lol

Wow, congratulations. Getting no.1 on Google is always a great feeling. It just shows that article marketing is not dead. Just do your keyword research, write a well researched article targeting the keyword and build a few links to it. AND BAMM! You could hit it like this every time.

Ranking high in google is not usually a problem for me, the problem is getting an article approved. I have to get my hubby to edit everything I write, my spelling and gramma are awful >.<

Not to burst any bubbles...because, I know it's a great feeling when you can get an article ranked #1 in Google....

But, that search term gets roughly 62 searches a day worldwide, and has a current SEOT value of 26 (that is how many visitors you can expect to get per day, at the #1 position in Google, which you are)....(of course, that is 26 visitors that you wouldn't otherwise have, i know)...There may be some articificial inflation of values, though, now that you began a thread and possibly many viewers of this thread will actually query that search term....

On another note, 4 of the top 10 results don't even have a single backlink...your article included. I won't do it, but I (or anyone) could easily dethrone your article for that search term....

If you truly value the phrase (hey, even with 26 visitors, you CAN see some profit), I would go the extra mile and begin creating some backlinks to it....

Fantastic point! Having an article in the #1 spot is great...now you just have to do it for a keyword that's stronger. But, to the OP, congrats! Now that you know you can do it, keep up the good work! Just be very careful with your keyword research before you write a single word.

The last thing I want to do is kill morale...this is a GREAT stepping stone (and learning lesson) that the OP should be proud of....but, getting to #1 in Google isn't the 'end-all-be-all', in and of itself. I could be #1, in a competition with 2 competitors, that noone really cares about, and, besides making me feel good inside, what good does it REALLY do you? It is going to be VERY difficult to find a niche that doesn't have at least some degree of competition....but, don't shy away from competition....embrace it. Learn what they do well, as well as, their weaknesses, and you can then decide if it is TRULY in your best interest to compete in the first place. As much as we would all love to be #1 in everything we do, sometimes that just isn't realistic for the resources we have at our disposal. (Some may have thousands to invest/outsource in quality backlink production, article/content production, etc)

Nothing wrong with 26 visitors to your site every day. Even a 3-5% conversion rate means he's be making a sale every 3 days on average. Given that an article takes, even on the extreme long end of the scale, 2 hours to write....I don't see an issue there!

As much as I love transparency, it becomes a bit tricky now that, in his excitement, he has made his keyword known. I certainly wont target it, but this is a massive forum filled with lots of strangers....with all varying skillsets.

A big issue, and a huge learning opportunity, is to not consider oneself safe if/when you do achieve a #1 rank in Google (for any keyword, regardless of how strong)....very little has been done with the article in order to ensure that it stays in position #1. He does have the authority of EZA going for him....but, someone could use EZA, or even a lower PR directory, gain a few backlinks, and knock him out of that #1 spot fairly easily. (To the OP, take some time and create a few backlinks in order to help ensure that your article stays there, if you value it and DO see potential from it)

Congratulations, phisms! A little tast of success can be a great confidence builder. The important thing is not to rest on your laurels. Keep the momentum you've established going. You're off to a great start, but one article won't do the trick. The key to article marketing success is to write lots of articles, consistently over time.

In addition, you need to consistently promote your articles like there’s no tomorrow. Promote them on article directories, promote them on your website or blog, promote them through social media, promote them on social bookmarking sites, promote them on RSS directories, promote them in your newsletter.

And after you do all that, promote them some more!

This is excellent news, but is this keyword a buying keyword? Are you getting tons of traffic due to the #1 ranking? Any extra sales, because of the #1 ranking?
