PR5 sites with few or no backlinks...

So I was looking through some website listings and I'm seeing lots of people selling PR5+ sites that have less than thirty, or in some cases zero backlinks.

Now, I understand that there is a lot more to SERPs than backlinks, but my understanding was that pagerank is pretty much all about backlinks. So how are there PR5 sites sitting out there with just a few poor backlinks, or no backlinks at all?

Are these all just sites that used to have thousands of backlinks that they lost, and now they're just trying to sell them before google's next pagerank update?

    Are you sure that the PR is not Fake.
    Enter info:domainname+extension into Google and see if the domain in question is not being redirected.

      Actually I'm just curious as to how it even happens. I put hours upon hours of blood, sweat, and tears (figuratively) into getting good content onto my sites and getting them good backlinks, and it still takes tons and tons of time even to get to PR3. Then I turn around and see these PR5 sites with almost no content and no backlinks, and wonder how it's even happening.

      Many of these are from that *ahem* other IM site out there, in their private auction section. They claim that they are valid and not faked, though I can't really speak to the validity of that though they typically have decent seller ratings.

    Dont waste money on those pr5 links just submit your site to big sites like reddit, digg, etc..
