I'm in the process of trying to build an email list. Man, it's a TON of work getting everything set up!

I'm trying to design an Opt-in form for my website and am looking for some good examples. I'm giving away a free ebook as a bribe to join my list so that will be featured prominently in the opt in form.

What's everyone's experience with Opt in forms - do the stock, simple Aweber forms convert well, or should I use my photoshop skills and make something fancy?

Links to graphically pleasing, high converting opt in forms would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

I started doing something similar recently. Here is the link to my opt-in form.

It has a hight conversion rate but that is probably because it is for a free guide.

When you say "graphically pleasing" you essentially mean on a page with nice graphics because the opt-in form code will look essentially the same where ever you insert it.

Here is one I did...I think it has nice graphics and it is very simple...

I just took a look at your product offers. These scripts look really interesting. I think I am pulling the trigger on the "Slide In pop Up" and the "Set and Forget Webinars"

      Really cool products

The offer, and traffic have more to do with it.

I've had ugly basic forms convert at 70+%

I suggest starting simple, tracking results, and then fiddling with graphic styles.

Somewhere in between there's stuff where you can tell it's got a little bit of professional touch like text and input box formatting, and a graphic "instant access" button...maybe a little animated arrow, but it's largely basic white page stuff.

I'd rather have ten simple basic pages/and forms with great offers, than spending forever on one fancy page.

    burnsai,

Here's something you might not think about (it's going to be off-topic).

You'll never know which opt-in forms were converting solidly... unless you test it yourself.

Some markets (niches) like pages that are "eye candy". Others like simplicity. Like I said, it's all about testing... which leads me to the main point:

    You need traffic to test.

You can have the best opt-in forms ever in history but if you DON'T have the traffic, it's not going to do anything. So master how to get targeted traffic instead of how to setup a squeeze page (this is the easy part) and you'll be on your way to internet riches.

    -Shaun

P.S Sorry for going off tangent. I just had to let this off.

Even in aweber you can edit (design?) your form: adding your book's cover, changing the stock images, colours, bg etc.

Although I think you shouldn't over-complicate it. It's rarely about the beauty of the form. It is mainly you offer that will be the most important in conversion.

In the last 7-8 days I had an average 80% conversion rate for a hot freebie using standard aweber form...
    YMMV

Thanks for all the input. Some very sage advice, as usual, from my fellow warriors!

I now I have a pretty good idea of what I'm gonna do with my squeeze page opt in form.

Now I need ideas for my sidebar opt-in for my main site. This seems a little tougher as it needs to be compact enough to fit in a 220px wide slot. Any ideas for this one? Do these even convert anymore?

@Baby Boomer - 80% conversion rate - Holy Cow! Were you giving away gold bars?

If you use Wordpress, you can use the HAL HTML Widget. It is the one I use for one of my blogs. You can see it in action in the sidebar here. You just add whatever code you want. HTML, Javascript, whatever...great for ads too if you don't want to use an opt-in form...

So, what's the difference between that widget and a standard text widget in WP?
Except PHP you can add HMTL, JS and who knows what
