Wordpress posts or pages for SEO? (First site)

Hi, trying to rank my first site ever. Should I put my content in

1) Posts within seperate pages
2) Just content on the pages with no posts

If #2, how do I put content on the home page? I don't want the home page to look differently from the rest of the pages.

Thanks.

Your pages will be things like about me, contact, privacy, services and your home page... things that probably won't change... posts will be where you keep adding content...

Your homepage can be general information about your site. To rank you can put keywords in your homepage that will link to posts that you will be adding along the way.

Depending on the type of site I need, I sometimes make static page sites that look like a static html site. I sometimes will create a fixed static page for my home page and then have posts behind the static page for the rest of the site. I do this for sales page sites or sites I want to appear like a static html site. Basically I have created a static page site with most of the content on a blog as my additional pages.

If you want to make a blog type site then just use posts. An advantage of posts vs static pages is that with posts, wordpress adds it to the rss file which you can then add to rss announce sites like feedage or to software like RSS Submitter or Incansoft's RSSBot. I also put a good pinger site list in the ping section to notify pinger sites when I have added new content.

I also use a plugin like, All in one SEO plugin to optimize my site meta information.

you can do either, but using posts is easier. On my main site, the public on, it's a WordPress blog with static pages all the basic information. Then it has the blog portion to where I can make posts.

    Hi,

    1) First of all the search engines don't care wether yours is a blog or a static HTML site
    2) They also don't care wether your CMS is Wordpress or any other.

All they care about is how easy it is to access your whole website/blog content and navigate through most of the site in the shortest time. But to specifically answer your question I normally set up the whole website on Wordpress platform using "Pages" and use All-in-one-seo plugin along with it.

If #2, how do I put content on the home page? I don't want the home page to look differently from the rest of the pages.
    To do this go to

Settings >> Reading >> Front Page Displays

Here select "A static page (select below)"

The drop down list ("Front Page" list not "Posts Page") will show you all your page titles. Select the one you have to use as your home page.

    Hope that helps
