Look... there is some money on the table, pick it up!

Looking back on the last year of IM I made some silly decisions and some great ones, and the great thing about this is I have learned a lot of lessons from experience.

I have for example purchased some dud sites, where earnings levels are way below expectations, or worked on projects that have not delivered money in proportion to my effort.

However I am constantly looking at new ways to cash the cow, and for me the follow are lucrative methods:

  1. Selling Links #1 - Site Wide Links. On a PR2 domain I am selling some for $60 a year. Nice way to recoup money on an otherwise dud site purchase, and for $600/yr for 10 backlinks, nice little earner, considering how easy PR2 is to achieve.
  2. Selling Links #2 - Getting paid to post. A few networks have approached me to pay me to post their articles on my site. The first paid $60/yr for 1 article. Another £50 per article, and has posted one so far. Another £30 a month. Nice money.
  3. Selling Links #3 - Text Link Ads - smaller money from these guys but the links are on specific words on specific posts, so not too obtrusive.
  4. Selling Links #4 - OK not really selling links, but Adsense can make good money, up to $5 a click in niches I've worked in, and $30 per 1000 impressions is achievable quite easily once you get a good page rank and are established.
So look at your forgotten sites that may not be getting traffic or sales, but have good backlinks and pagerank and get link selling. This is all I did:

  • Post that you want to sell links on Digital Point
  • Add an "Advertise On This Site" option on your sites main menu visible on all your pages. On that page don't say much and don't mention prices just habe your email address or a send message form.

And that's it. Randomly you will get a message offering you the gift of some easy cash

And pick up the cash from the table. It's there!

    Good post. It's good advice for certain kinds of sites, and certainly a viable option for many. One does have to be careful about which sites you accept advertising from or which pages you add advertising to if you sell your own products or have a good cash flow from already (whether it's affiliate advertising, Adsense, or whatever).

    I just turned someone down that offered me $420 a year for one text link.

    Why?

    I make way, way more than that from the content on the page they wanted the link on.

      I make way, way more than that from the content on the page they wanted the link on.
      Dennis, thats a very good point. A site owner should weigh up the lost traffic through those links vs. the extra income they generate. And think in the long term too.

      Even $10k for one link could be too little e.g. if you owned a top 100 site.

      The point of the first post was more related to capitalising on the "blood from a stone" sites where not much money has been made from other methods and you are about to totally write off. There is still some hope for monitisation with some imagination.

      A site could be getting just 1 visitor a day but at the same time be PR2 or more. Now if you don't have time to develop the site selling links can be a way to get some cash out of it quickly.

    As the page rank on sites go up, the more you start to get those out of the blue emails wanting to place a link. The hard part is that most are irrelevant and poor sites.

      Thanks for the post. I'm not new to blogging, but I am new to try to make some side money by blogging, and I've decided to start by going slow and setting what I think are realistic goals (even though I know its a limiting belief).

      My goal is to make one dollar per week more than the money I spend on advertising. I know I know, its a pathetic goal, but understand, I have never made money outside of working a normal job, so it was already pretty exciting when I made money just from my words.

      Once I do this very realistic goal, I will have enough confidence to make bigger goals and have the time to research how to do them.

      Being in personal development, I have to spend enough time already thinking about what I am going to write and researching it, so internet marketing is just another thing I have to master. I really don't know much as of now. I use Adsense, tried a Facebook ad (which I realized was stupid because I have nothing to sell yet). I post on forums and blogs to get backlinks as well. Little by little my site is growing, and sometimes its like watching water boil, but at least it is steadily going up
