Need some Help With Word

I just got a new laptop and it has vista on it that I really don't understand and Therefore I don't like it. I am trying to copy and paste into a word document but it keeps saying what I am trying to paste is too large even if It's just 3 sentences. Is there a setting I Need to know of or anything else?

Thanks

Jan

        I was just joking buddy.

I use Vista without a problem... its more user friendly than any other O/S out there.

Just that it requires you to have a great configuration to use it.

Ask your vendor how much RAM has been installed...

I got it from bestbuy and opted not to have geeksquad do my settings for me. Is Ram something you have to install mannually? Or does it automatically come with each PC?

          Cheers

RAM is memory, it is Hardware meaning a piece of real world equipement. If you have a PC it is normally just a case of uncliping the old RAM and clipping in new RAM, the same is usually applied for laptops aswell, there should be a panel which you can lift off the underneath of the laptop to give you access to the RAM.

In appearence Laptop RAM is the same width and PC RAM but about half the length, do google image search for this.

Do a google search for "how to change laptop/pc RAM tutorial" - its one of the most basic things you can change when it comes to hardware other than obviously the keyboard and mouse.

            Hope this helped.

            Steven.

EDIT - Please take care when handleing RAM. Do NOT touch the cicuitboard or chips, only touch the very edge of it like you would a CD, but it alot more important with RAM than an CD.

EDIT 2 - Yes every PC comes with RAM on it, it wouldnt work if it didnt have it.

I figured ram had to do with memory and shouldn't be the problem in this case. I'll have to keep playing around to figure this out. Thanks for the input guys.

              Cheers

RAM is Memory first of all. However sinse he said that he purchased a NEW laptop with Vista ON IT i don't think this would be a problem with the hardware.

I have no clue to what the problem is. I have never experienced anything like that... if you have other things on the clipboard (the copy+paste clipboard) it might be trying to paste something else? but even then you should be able to paste pretty much anything...

Only advice would be to save everything and restart the laptop, see if that helps.

I'm still using XP, and I'm trying to stay far away from Vista as long as I can. I have 1gig of ram in my machine, which is almost enough, but could use more. I understand that Vista is very ram intensive, I'm guessing that is at least part of your problem.

It says that the information is exceeding the size limit to paste into the word processor please reduce the size of your selection and try again.

On the Vista and XP dispute, XP is much better than Vista!

I would use XP over Vista all day everyday. The only problem is that by 2011 all new programs for MS OS will no longer work on anything below Vista.

    Just so you know...

Thanks for the help getsmart I found the solution here is what I have to do How annoying.

Method 1: If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or a different Web browser
Reduce the size of the data package that you are trying to transfer. If you still cannot transfer the data, follow these steps:
      1. Drag the contents of the HTML document into Works Portfolio.
      2. Select the item or the object that you want.
      3. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
      4. Open a Works Word Processor document.
      5. Put the pointer at the position that you want.
      6. On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
      7. In the Paste Special dialog box, click Picture, and then click OK.

I usually paste into Notepad first, then copy and paste the text in Notepad to Word. This eliminates any crazy attachments or formats Word would try to include in the paste.

    Try:

Click the Windows Button (bottom left-hand corner)
    Click All Programs
    Click Accessories
    Click Notepad
    Paste into Notepad
Now copy and paste the text in Notepad to Word

    Hope this helps.

  • Hey Jan.

If you're just after the text, you can try the following commands on MS Word once you have copied the source content.

Edit --> Paste Special --> Unformatted Text

This, I believe, is method 2 of Microsoft's recommended solutions.

If you want to copy and paste text and images, maybe it would be easier to copy the content on a "per component" basis, i.e. copy text first then paste, then copy image then paste, then copy new text then paster, etc.

More onerous, yes, but simpler and more manageable as well.
