Philadelphia requiring bloggers get $300 business license!

I couldn't believe this was true but it appears to be.

Is this a sign of things to come as goverments go to extreme measures to get revenue?

That is too funny cowboy! Well I can't say I blame Philly for such drastic measures. In all actuality we are the ones to blame for not forcing our elected officials to balance the budgets each year. I'm not one to point fingers but it is becoming more apparent which party is bringing down the house. Just do a search for financially strapped city or state and look what party has been in control. Oh well guess more people need to get involved with what's going on or let it get worse.

I would take the position that my business is located where the server is located. Maybe your ass is located in Phily, but if you host with HostGator, then your business is in Houston.

I don't know how the law is written obviously, and I am not a lawyer. I am also not one that likes to have others tell me what to do. So you might not want to follow my line of thinkin. But that would be my line of thinking.

Ya I was reading a story about a guy who made $10 in a couple YEARS off his blog having to pay $300 in incorporation fees... Ugh that would drive me insane. While I'm incorporated myself, seems like they would set a minimum amount to be made before requiring incorporation (because you can claim it on personal income and use your name without incorporating)

It's not like they'll get the $$ from the incorporation (at least it would be smarter to incorporate in Delaware...)

Nevertheless seems a bit silly doing it without setting a minimum, kind of like kicking people when they're down.

Typical politics in Pennsylvania, a/k/a, the Land of Taxes. There's a license fee and regulation for everything, except owning a cat, at least at the moment. I've considered moving out of state myself.

We have to register our cats here and pay a yearly fee fortunately, it's still free to blog!

  • It's a little silly. On the other hand, if it's going to rid us of some of the competition, then I say it's fine.

Wow ... she made a whole $50 in a couple of years. Philadelphia must be really hard up if they can't figure out that's not a business.
