Google Experimenting With "Places" Location

I saw this the other night and heard of other unconfirmed sightings so I grabbed a snapshot to share with you. This is a search for plumbers in charlotte nc.

If this is going to be the new configuration, we'll have to rethink some strategies. In this configuration their are 3 organic results above and 3 below the seven "places" results.

Any ideas?

I just checked again, and yes, their are only 6 organic search results on that page with the seven "places" entries for a total of 13.

Not only that, but the map stays in the upper right hand corner when you scroll down!

    Very Interesting the ramifications.

I cant make that happen here? I hope this is right, small businesses that have already sunk their teeth into SEO deserve the better rankings.

Oh yeah changgggges are a comingggggg. I'm glad to see that they are still giving some respect to the organic listings. I'm thinking that they will keep a few local organic results mixed in, as I'd imagine there will be a whole lot of upset SEO clients/companies if everything goes to 100% "Places". All that local optimization $$$$$ down the drain.

They have so many issues with Places now, I really hope that it doesn't just become "pay to play" places/tags covering the ENTIRE front page of local results. I'm OK with the blending, as it still gives multiple opportunities for page 1 placement.

It's interesting how they are doing this, I have 25 major keywords for a local program and it seems they are experimenting with the ones that are more highly searched.

If this becomes the norm, it will set a lot of SEO on it's ear, it'll be all about google places and not the best ranking websites.
