Wordpress Paid Membership Functionality?

Hi,

I am looking to make certain parts of my Wordpress site paid-per-view. Essentailly, you sign up for a membership and you are able to view all lessons available. However, I can't figure out how exactly to go about this. A few of my questions:

1) I could put up a paypal button to receive payments, but how would I be able to send a unique password to the payee right away upon payment?

2) Would I be able to set wordpress so that certain sub-pages (under the lessons primary page) have dynamic passwords? Per #1 above, I'd like to charge people for access, but I don't want to give each person the same password (to prevent sharing of passwords). Once someone logs in, they will have access to all pages.

Any ideas?

    Hi,

Here's my recommendation. Am working with it now and it will do what you are asking.

Membership Site Plugin – Wordpress Membership Plugin – MemberWing

    Look at MemberWing X.

Gleb, the developer is a member here and a great guy to work with.

    Thanks,

    John

Following up with this -- I am now creating a .psd (html feel) to a wordpress professional business site for a client that wants the website with, essentially one password protected page. There will be no posts like a typical wordpress website, but the page (linked to at the top header) will need to be locked.

I don't want the member to have to set up a traditional wordpress password if at all possible. I'd also like to be able to track member usage and have access to user created passwords when necessary.

Is this possible with any plugin?

      Thanks!

Also, for my newest question -- I don't need to set it up for paypal. In fact, I need to have a membership set up that doesn't need payments and has no branding.

The MWX plugin will do that (pretty sure) as it allows set up of a 'pay per page' product.

May be a bit of overkill for just a one page site, but it will allow payment then automated user/pass set up after payment.

Maybe contact Gleb from his site for more info. Is a great plugin.

    Thanks,

    John

    Mike (NBaller - the OP),

Thank you for bring this thread to my attention, and inviting me to respond to this.

    So here goes...

    >>1) I could put up a paypal button to receive payments, but how would I be able to send a unique password to the payee right away upon payment?<<

The way you would do this with DigitalAccessPass.com (DAP), is...

    * Create a "Product" or "Level"
    * In just a few clicks, designate all of your WordPress content that you wish to be delivered as part of this "Product"
    * Either drip all of the content at once, or a little bit every X days
    * Create a buy button specific to this Product, and then just publish that button on your web site.
    * When someone buys that Product, DAP will automatically create a login/password for them, and give them access just to this product.
    * Once they become a member, then the dripping starts from Day #1. So whatever content you have to set up to drip, will drip little by little, all automatically.
    * Using DAP's built-in autoresponder, you can also setup emails to be dripped on the same day as the content is dripped. So every time a new piece of content is made available to the user, an email will also go out on the same day, notifying them of the new content, thus bringing them back repeatedly to your web site

That's it. All of this will take you about 20 minutes to setup if you have DAP installed. SO every new Product, with new content (or existing content), and buy-button integration, is all about 15-20 minutes away. You can slice-and-dice your existing content (and future content) and quickly create multiple products, with different dripping, some one-off products, some recurring products, and so on. You are only limited by your imagination :-)

    >>2) Would I be able to set wordpress so that certain sub-pages (under the lessons primary page) have dynamic passwords? Per #1 above, I'd like to charge people for access, but I don't want to give each person the same password (to prevent sharing of passwords). DAP will auto-generate for each user a different password. So there is never any need for password sharing. And DAP also has built-in security checks to ensure that people do *not* share their passwords - you can set DAP to automatically lock a user's account if the number of logins (from different IP's) for a single account exceeds "X" (where X is 5 by default). So if someone shares their password on, say, a forum, then the moment the number of different IP's logging into an account exceeds 5, DAP will automatically lock that account, and send both the user and the admin an email. You can of course, customize what that email would say, and so on.

    Hope this helps.

Also, check out our expired WSO page, where a lot of people have asked a lot of questions, and I have replied in great detail to all of them.

Feel free to ask us you have any other questions about how DAP will handle certain scenarios.

    Hi Guys,

I'm currently going in another direction and don't need to receive payments. Instead, I just need to make one wordpress page "members only" for a client of mine. The client wants the following:

Client will click on "members only" tab that will be username and password protected. The client wants to use this section to share internal information with about 30-40 employees that she wants to have access additional information. This information would need to be secured.

Along with this, the client would need to be able to monitor usage (time on members site, links viewed, items downloaded) that fell behind members only pages. The client would also be able to change usernames and passwords when necessary.

There is no need to receive payments and no need to connect to an e-mail autoresponder. In fact, the easier, the better.

When I choose the plugin to use, I want something that is reliable, capable, and easy to set up. If it costs money, that is fine. However, if a free plugin can do the work, I'd be happy to go that route as well.

Can anyone give examples of wordpress that are setup in a similar form? Just a standard business wordpress site with a locked member's only section?

    Thanks in advance!

    Mike

Hi, I checked out a few, but I wasn't able to find one that would allow my client to control membership and password access on the backend. Most required the user to log in through wordpress, keeping the username and password accessible only by the visitor.

If I could find a simple plugin to allow my client to restrict membership and allocate unique passwords while keeping track of user metrics (products downloaded, pages viewed, time on site, etc., I'd be happy to use or purchase).

thanks for everyone's response. At this point, I am slightly leaning towards the Wishlist Membership plugin due to its lower price and it's integration into the wordpress admin panel. However, I am a bit concerned since I have read reviews that its ability to protect a folder of files doesn't work.

Ive tried many but i am totally 100% sold on using amember for the membership and wordpress for the content... that way i can have ALL the wordpress stuff hidden and have a sales page or whatever on my main site.

super easy i use this on about 8 sites right now.

I will second this as well. amember and wordpress make a wonderful combination and not too difficult to integrate either (though in all honesty, if you've never used amember before at all there will be a bit of an initial learning curve when jumping in.. but it's really very easy).

Too bad that you haven't tried DigitalAccessPass.com (DAP) :-)

With DAP, you can not only put sales page on your main site, but DAP also lets you put your sales page on a *completely different* web site.

Which means you could have multiple "sales page only" sites on different domains, but ultimately have DAP on this one "Content Delivery" site where DAP is installed, and delivers content to all of your members from your 8 (or 80) sites.

I have used s2member which was free along with Buddy Press. S2member has the capability of working with PayDotCom for your affiliate program too.

It is a very simple solution, and the others are robust in terms of features.

I am sure someone will point out the flaws in a free membership plugin, but to date, I have not had any issues with it.

Google s2member then google Buddy Press. Buddy Press is a free plugin that turns your blog into a social network. It is made to integrate with s2member.

So spend money if you have to, but if you are wary of price right now...go with s2member and upgrade later.

If you can't find a plugin already created, you are probably going to have to have someone create it for you. A good place to check that is is elance.com or somewhere you can hire a programmer.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback!

I am also thinking about aMember, but I don't know if I can justify it since it seems like Wishlist would be easier for my client to understand and is $100 cheaper. Since I don't need to integrate it with a payment system or aWeber, I don't need a lot of the bells-and-whistles associated with a $200 plugin.

Also, does anyone know if any of these programs allow you to track usage and downloads by member?

    Thanks again.

Tim, first..everything I have seen of your is excellent and high quality. Just wanted to let you know that.

Now...the only thing that is a drawback to me with s2member and I know they say that they are working on it is that I cannot currently allow the members to promote the community as an affiliate.

They have the capacity for 3rd party integration, but right now, you can't really effectively figure out how to use it with PayDotCom and they are not responding to requests to have it customized (heck I am willing to pay them).

That said, I love this plugin in every other case. And when they get that one thing squared away, I will like it even more. In addition to Internet Marketing, I do some work within MLM communities and what this does is it allows junior members to start their own paid membership community and lead from the very beginning.

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on DAP. I've read many good things in different forums that tell me it may be the right choice (support being very high since I'm not very technical). Anyway, what's delaying me is that it's critical that the membership software can work on WP mulitsite and on buddypress. Anyone have feedback on those areas for DAP?
Also, how does DAP (or any membership software) handle separating out "groups"? Example: Members have the ability to do activities in one group but not in another. Is that a subscription tied to a specific group that users request access?
S2member also looked promising but the "farm blog" scenario scares me and I can't find much information on that setup.

    Fillsee,

    DAP already integrates with BuddyPress.

But DAP does not work with WP MU, or the multi-site features of WordPress. At least, not yet :-)

Now when you say "activities in one group", what do you mean by "activities" and what do you mean by "group"?

DAP allows people with access to different "Products" (or "Membership Levels") to have access to different content. Is that what you're asking about?

If you're asking about "Forum groups", then you cannot do that with any of the WordPress-based forum plugins, because the plugins themselves don't offer that kind of power to say (User A can post in Forum A, but not in Forum B).

If you're looking for that kind of power segregation, then it will be available in the upcoming v3.9 where we will have vBulletin integration.

    Does that help?

Thanks for the quick response Ravi. I'm using "groups" generically i guess. what i'm looking to do is have several blogs each with an associated buddypress community. Users could be members of any of those "groups". Since you said dap would handle that in 3.9, I guess my question is: when is 3.9 scheduled to release?
      {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[2657968].message }}
      • Profile picture of the author ravijayagopal
Please note that the "groups" feature will not work with BuddyPress (DAP User A gets added to BP group A -OR- DAP User B gets added to BP group B+C, etc). DAP does not support that right now.

For that, you must have vBulletin.

DAP v3.9 is coming out in less than a week.
