I had quit my job and to focus on internet marketing full time.

I never realized that sometimes it takes so much time or events that pass through for someone to really realize what their true calling in life is.

I also never realized that when the time comes to be strong, someone can be just so strong and also have the courage to move towards the unknown despite all fears.

I never realized that all I wanted was the courage. The courage to move into this unknown bravely.

And now, I want to make it really happen. Every single bridge is burnt and there is absolutely no more place for me to hide anymore and with me being unable to be employed again.

Affiliate marketing first. That's the area I need to do to quickly replace my income for the short term of 3 to 4 months.

After that, to move into product creation and design products across markets.

I am thinking to to quit my job as well to concentrate more on internet marketing, but at the moment I still don`t feel that save because I am still a newbie. I will quit my job as soon as my income from IM is at least the same as I receive in my day job! Unfortunately I have a lot of debts to risk with quiting my job before I am not a newbie anymore. But maybe I shall risk as it would be something that would force me to work x times harder (as I would know I have no other chances).
I am glad that you had the encourengment and I wish you all the best in IM!

Congratulations on this step! You're absolutely right. Fear is the reason so many lead small lives. But what lies beyond our small lives is not the things we fear but wonderful things.

Have you heard the acronym of fear? I like it and find it helps...

    False
    Expectations
    Appearing
    Real

The fears which keep us where we are, do not generally reflect reality.

    Good luck zijian!

I really like that acronym Hilary! I've never heard an acronym for FEAR but I'll take that one. It's so true once you're on the "other side" of the fear you have/had.

      Congratulations.

      Slightly dull but essential bit:
      • Organise yourself and your business - develop systems now before they get out of hand
      • Define your specific business model
      • Set some definite goals for you and your business
      • Develop your support network
The less serious but equally important bit:
      • Have fun
      • Make as much money as you want
      • Generate your own luck
      • Believe that you can

I like Paul Bestel's advice. Choose a good business model with systems in place and plan your time ruthlessly.

And the number one factor in my opinion is the right mindset. Because with that you can achieve (and overcome) almost anything. Especially in difficult moments. We've all had them in some stage in our lives.

    All the best.

    Interesting post,

reason being that I have been unwell for 4 weeks (on the mend now after a really horrible minor operation).

In this time I have increased my online efforts loads of times over as I have been stuck at home, rather than been at work for 12 hours.

I dont know how long I can sustain myself without going back, but I know its going to fee like a giant step backwards if I have to go back.

A part time job may be the answer, but right now I'm living the dream.

I'm one of the people on the Golden Thread so hopefully it won't be too long till my reswults balloon.

    Good luck man,

Stepping out of the comfort zone is the key. I have noticed a few Warriors saying to be careful with your time, etc. and I couldn't agree more.

I quit my job a couple years ago and did full time IM for a year or so before having to go back to a full time job for the health insurance (I'm a kidney transplant recipient... individual coverage is not cheap).

I probably would have been fine if I would have managed my time better that year. Looking back, I realize that I was just a cocky 25 year old kid that thought my **** didn't stink... which made me a bit lazy.

Now, I have 40 less hours a week to dedicate to IM, and have 2 small children that I dedicate a lot of time to... but I think I am still accomplishing more every day than I did when I was able to dedicate all my time to it.

.... I can't imagine how successful some of my sites would be if I was able to dedicate 40 hours of uninterrupted time a week to them.

I wonder what Charles Darwin would say about the OP's 'I quit my day job as motivation to make money online instead' plan?

That was the extent of the plan, right?

... or did I miss something otherwise it is an incredibly stupid move to make on many, many levels unless the OP lives at home with his parents in the basement while leeching of their Wireless router with frequent trips to their fully stocked fridge when necessary with no dependants or any form of debt to speak of with some room left on their credit card balance.

If not, I'm gonna sell imaginary electronic safety nets for the unabashedly "leap before you look" stupid folks.

Oh, I dunno. I can see your point here but I can also see OP's motivation. About 20 years ago, I quit a real good job in the airline industry. It really was a good job because it was long before the airline industry was so screwed up.

Anyway, after working there for nearly 5 years, I just said screw it and told my boss that I was leaving the very next day. Couldn't stand it anymore I told him. He was pretty peeved because the company had invested about $30k in my training over the years. I'd really burned my bridges and I knew it. But I desperately wanted to be my own boss & run my own business. The corporate crap, daily stress, and long hours were killing me.

Was I scared? You bet! I had a wife & new baby girl to take care of. Everyone within range thought I was nuts. Honestly, I did too. But I survived and went on to build a successful Broadcast Engineering business, and never looked back.

I don't recommend this approach to everyone, especially nowadays with economic gloom & doom all around us. But if you have chosen to do this then do your very best to make it work and the rest will usually fall into place. Good luck!

Sometimes it takes that leap of faith. Despite what your brain tells you; "it's a stupid move, you've got nothing to fall back on, run it along side your day job." You still HAVE to just go for it sometimes.

I would never advise anyone to simply leave the relative security of a regular job without having a decent, well-thought-out business plan, but I'm also not going to judge anyone who decides to say, 'Sod it!' and just does it.

I do know that this forum has its fair share of successful IMers who have made that foolhardy decision, in spite of their sensible business brains telling them to do otherwise.

I'm a time-served, fully qualified business adviser and I simply walked away from a decent job whilst supporting a family, paying a mortgage and in debt. Without a plan!!

Reckless? Foolhardy? Stupid? You might think so.

But for me and my family it was the best career decision I've ever made.

That was just over two years ago. We are now completely debt free, living in a place we love, doing things we love to do and have never been happier.

So don't be too quick to judge. Just because it's not right or sensible for you, doesn't mean it's not the right decision for someone else.

      Just sayin'

It is difficult making a move like that when you have no financial backup. But for some people, it's a necessary move because they can spend more time working towards their dream.

I myself have struggled with the same issue... should I go full-time with Internet marketing or keep getting upfront money from clients. Well, no matter how much I want to cut the cord from my job I can't. So, I've made a compromise... work for less stressful clients in the morning and in the evening dedicate my time to Internet marketing.

At least I've realized part of the dream... I have a real job at-home. But then again, it's the job that's part of the problem!
