I've made a promise to myself to donate 5% of my income monthly, when I was in a pretty dark place in my life. And I've been keeping this promise ever since. And I must say it feels pretty good.

$10 for me is not a lot of money. And I am an unemployed student... It is amazing that I can give this little and help somebody walk again.

Just sent mine... I announce it here in the forum only to be an example and get others to as well. I was just driving behind a moped rider today thinking how unprotected he was... anyway, you never know when you may need the milk of human kindness in your own life.

Isnt it better that the giver is YOU and not another?

Just got mine in. I haven't had to outsource to these guys but I've heard some amazing stories and I'm even more amazed we can get work done for the sort of money they charge. Such a nice humble bunch of people as well, I know a filipino over here and she's got to be the sweetest person I've ever met. Besides as a bunch of people over this part of the world who's average salary is so much more than there's even a small donation goes a long way.

Hmmm...., ladies and gentlemen this reply is going to made me a very bad guy.

Firstly, I'm touched by all your kind hearted fellows warriors but living in a country in south east asia, I would like to share some real stories of what criminals does.

Since young I would like to donate a small part of money I have to those I think less fortunate than me (normally beggers). When I grow up, my friends told me if I want to help those people (begger) - don't donate to them.

They won't get to benefits from your donations, all your donations will go to the thugs and scammers out to prey on kind hearted people. These beggers are forced to beg by syndicates. Donations from kind hearted people will only help spur the begging industries which will result in more young children being kidnap, crippled and forced into being begger.

back in the 70s and 80s young children being kidnapping are rampant in south east asia countries until the authorities came in to put a stop to these syndicates. These expose made headlines now and then in local daily - that's how we learnt the truth about the begging industries.

I normally donate only to people whom I know truly needed help (blind people going around selling hand craft). I normally would follow them to find out whether there are syndicate behind them. I've seen beggers pickup at the end of day by people and came back again next day (there are drivers doing that).

Ever since, I'm very skeptical on people asking for donations.

May I ask, anyone of you know Vicman, either via email, skype or has uses his services before, just would like to confirm his identity.

In the website, its says "last Saturday" no actual date was mentioned, which Saturday was it?

who is this guy? It's not mentioned anywhere on the site a friend, relative?

"Account Name : Roxel S. Pudol
    Account Number : 0786167015
    Branch : BPI Balanga Branch
    "

Why aren't donations going to families members?

think of it logically, if a person had meet with such bad accident he would need to do operations within a very short time frame otherwise it would have been life threatening, when should be the dead line?

All those of you who have donated, did you see your name updated on the site?

Sorry for my bad English (it's not my native language), I can't really write a good explaination on this but I do hope you all kind hearted fellows are not being taken advantage of. If you want to help out with money, just donate to people near you - someone you get to see and know they really needed it.

If you really want to help out by donating and can't really find needy people to donate, give your money to the old folks home.

Lots of people love to shower loves on young abandon babies but not much people care about old folks and there are enough abandon old folks out there.

No, It doesn't make you a bad guy at all. It is a very good and legitimate warning, and I hope everyone waits until your questions are answered.

I live in the Philippines, and I will agree with your statements. Hopefully it is 100% legitimate and he gets the help he needs, but the Philippines has just as many scam artists as talented out-source workers.

Hi redfc, I understand what you feel and I want to answer some of your concerns

The accident was happened last Saturday August 21, 2010...
Vicman Calara is one of Lexorsoft.net staff, we made the initiative to create the site A Helping hand for Vicman Callara as one way to help his family. Because they really don't know how to raise the money needed.

Roxel S. Pudol is my wife's name, we agreed to use her bank account since no one of Vic's relative have their own bank account.... This acount is new so if any money come in it will be shown...

I hope that clarify some of your questions....

        Ed,

You can try going to your local government officials in congress as well as those in the senate.

If Vic is in a public hospital, your local gov't officials have annual personal medical/healthcare allowances. Most of them don't use it.

If they have unused funds from their allowances, it doesn't get carried over to the next year. That's an awful waste. So, they will be very willing to help.

When I was gunned down twice and went totally blind Nov 2003, which was my preGrayscale years, my activist parents knew senators and congressmen. My combined Php700K (around $20000) hospital and surgery bill in PGH (Philippine General Hospital, a public hospital) was paid in full due to:

        - shared annual medical allowances from 2 senators,

        - shared annual medical allowances from 2 local government congressmen,

        - a 50% discount on professional fees of my neurosurgeon, the top neurosurgeon here (my parents know then UP (University of the Philippines) president, so he also knew UP Manila president, who has contacts in PGH because doctors from UP practice their profession in PGH),

        - a 50% discount from my neurologist, the top one here and also then UP Manila president, and

        - a benefit concert (I play bass, preferred genre: metal and blues) at 70s Bistro, owned by my godparents, and tickets were bought by my friends and family, while popular local bands played for free (I was a member of a music community in UP back in college, which was the time of the accident).

Vic, help will definitely come, as I learned back then.

Things may not look good at this time, but it doesn't mean everything will take a turn for the worst.

You need to do what's best for yourself now: be brave, be strong. People care. They actually do.

Hope this lifts the spirits of your friends and family.

        Best Wishes,

        Marx

I just dropped a PM to Ed Pudol of Lexersoft to drop by...

I'd agree this request looks very legitimate, and if so it would be great to see the donations start flowing again.

To anyone who is not familiar with medicine in the Philippines, the Doctors and Hospital will do nothing until they receive payment. Major surgery is a pre-pay situation in most cases. The most common insurance is PhilHealth which only pays a very small portion of the bill, usually well under 25%, if he happens to even have it.

My wife just had a c-section here in the Philippines and I can attest you will not get much done unless payment has been made. The request for help has URGENCY written all over it.

A few months ago one of my wife's cousins had a brain aneurysm, and even getting basic diagnostic procedures done required having payment made before progress started. This resulted in delays of days while her family gathered the funds from friends and family. Needless to say, delays in these types of situations can lead to a lifetime of problems, as could be true with Vicman, too.

Medical needs in the Philippines is vastly different than in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, and other more robust economic countries.

If you were thinking about putting off a donation because the bill can be paid later, it does not happen here. Just an FYI.

We need to be responsible in giving a statement like this because it takes away the impartiality of the readers viewing this thread. There is no need to generalize as this situation do not happen in ALL hospitals here. I live here, and I can definitely attest that most doctors are professional enough NOT to refuse treating a patient in dire need of help.

I worked before for PhilHealth for 3 years. The government institution shoulders the medical expenses depending on the categorization of the hospital and the severity of the illness. Philhealth shoulders up to 65% of the medical expenses. It implements an indigent program which pays for the bills in its entirety of most people who cannot pay even a single peso because of poverty.

Some hospitals just waive the medical expenses of some patients who just cannot pay their bills for justifiable reasons. I can attest to this because I am working at present for a pharmaceutical company and I provide pharma service to some hospitals.

Are these situations unique only to the Philippines? I think not. What I am just saying is that we need to be responsible in posting comments that might put a darker shade of opinion to the persons at the receiving end of the irresponsible comments.

My fervent prayers of recovery goes with Vic.

Thank you for clarifying. I have only lived here for about 9 months, and I can only state what I have seen and what is told to me by the Filipinos I know.

Your statements are in stark contrast to what most people tell me. I'm glad to hear there are other experiences.

Hello to all, Ed Here... first of all I want to say thank you to everyone who sent their donation for our campaign to earn enough fund for the operation of Vican Calara.

Vicman is one of our staff at Lexorsoft.net - Link Building Services - SEO Services and working to us more than a year now.

I understand what other feels that this maybe a scam, but I want to confirm that this is a legitimate.

I also ask some online friends like Peter Drew to help us and started this FB post Welcome to Facebook
To all who sent their donation and help for Vicman:

This afternoon, I talked to her mother and informed her about the good news – that you guys are helping.
Her mother cannot suppress the tears from her eyes as she said:
“I don't know what to ...say, I cannot express how thankful I am. All this goodness that these people are extending to help my son Vic, make me stronger to face all these trials. I will pray that the good Lord bless them more including their loved ones.”
