How Do I Make Money From My List

Hello,

After repeatedly being told that, "money's in the list" i decided to finally sign up to aweber 2 months ago.

In that time i have manged to accumulate around 150 subscribers, the problem is...

How to i get them to convert. At the moment my sequence is 7 "how to" emails with affiliate links in the last 3.

To date i have not made a single sale. I have decided that i will...

- subscribe to the top mailers (eben pagan, perry marshall, matt furey etc.)
- write out / study their emails
- rewrite and then split test my copy every 2 weeks

What other tips and advice can you give me?

Thanks.

Focus on presenting ONE offer to your list of subscribers
and then build a follow-up sequence to show why it's in
THEIR best interests to buy it.

This offer can be your own or an affiliate offer.

Also, you may want to present your offer earlier in the
process instead of waiting until the latter follow-up
    e-mails.

(You could even present the offer to them as soon as
they sign-up to your list, e.g. on the thank you page).

Continually focus on how you can bring value into the
lives of your subscribers (rather than just your own)
    - through content and offers - and you'll then find more
    success.

It´s not necessarily the size of the list but the quality!

If you have got your subscribers through cheap, lower quality offers, then the chances are your subscribers don´t associate you with quality.

Here´s what you need to have a quality list:

    1. Targeted Subscribers. This means they should be mainly interested in 1 thing. They are passionate about and craving for more information. Not a general list where every person is interested in something different. The list must be built on 1 targeted offer such as: eczema treatment.

    2. They must Know, Trust & Like YOU! What do they associate you with? Do they even know who you are? Help your list by providing free information. This way they will begin to associate you with helpful information and begin to like you IF you actually help them.

    3. Don´t Spam Them. To start with don´t send out offers every single day. If someone does that to me I feel as though they are waisting my time and only want to make a quick buck out of me and have no real interest in helping me. Once you build trust with your list then start to send out QUALITY offers once a week. This can then be built up to every day but only when your list fully trusts you and sees benefits from reading what you have to say

    4. Offer the Solution to Their Problem. If someone signs up who has eczema, offer them the solution immediately. They want a solution now, not 2 months down the line. Have 1 week of emails lined up talking about their problem and how your offer can solve it. This may seem the opposite to what I mention about spamming but this is not spamming. When someone wants a solution now, give it to them NOW!

    5. Interact with them. Ask them questions. Get to know what they want and build rapport.

I could continue but this should help for now.

150 people is not a large list by any means but see it as a testing ground. If you can get something out of them, then you are doing well. Keep building your lists into the thousands.

I had a list of only 300 people who bought a product from me. They knew and trusted me because they had already purchased a product so when I came to emailing them, they read my emails and bought the affiliate product which I was offering but they only bought it because it offered a solution to a problem they had.

    Good luck

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

    - so should i just wait until i have more subs

    @shaun

    - i first make the offer in the free report i give them, but i will now expand that to every email

    @epic performance

    - what do you mean by quality offer, the product i am trying to promote is a clickbank men's health product (i.e. p**** enlargement) and i have actually been wondering if this is the kind of product i can promote through a list.

Well if your list was half women then it probably wouldnt do well with a product like that...then again some of them may be more likely to look for that fathers day gift . The gift that keeps on giving.

Or maybe those on your list just aren't after that sort of thing. Maybe you should try promoting something else to them unless this list was generated from a catch which basically was telling them they were a bit small...

Is it size or quality that counts? If you truly believe your offer to be effective then why not provide proof right away in your emails or on your site. This could be expert research, social proof through testimonials, medical advice etc. With health claims the substantiation of your offer is paramount to creating believability.

If you are providing what you feel is adequate proof then make your offer straight away. Since this isn't being successful to date keep adding more proof and testing your results. My only other question would be whether this product converts well on the sales page and are you tracking your email open rates and click through from your emails to the sales page?

I've found that just being honest and open with your list works wonders.

The other day I offered one of my paid products to my list for free. There was a reason I was doing this (aside from providing value) and that was because on the download page they would see a special offer.

I told them this and I told them if they liked it then to take advantage of the special offer - a hell of a lot of them did.

Don't focus on trying to convert. Think 150 subscribers out of which between 15 and 30 will open your e-mails. At conversion rate of 1% your sales should be below 1. Instead of trying to convert them focus on building relationships with them; test headlines; see what they open and what they don't. Train them to open your emails by providing quality convent.

When you increase your list count and provide quality content your open rate will raise and your number of readers will increase due to increased subscriber count and open rate increase. That's when you will start to see sales.

The only reason people sign up to be on your list is that they see a benefit to them. If you provide that benefit on a continual basis you will gain their trust. Once they trust you, you will be able to slip in offers occasionally and create a "buyers" list from those that respond. Your "buyers" list is where you will make all of your money since they have proven they are willing to open their wallets.

Focus on good content and helping your list attain their goals and you'll be fine.

8 is 8 more than many people who are still dreaming about
starting their list but they've never got around to it.

8 just happens to be the number of people I had on my list
in the first week when I started building my first list back in
      November, 2003.

      Everybody has to start somehwere.

Even the gurus had a time when they had just a handful of
      people on their list too.

At least, you've started building a list.

Focus on where you want to go - not just on where you
      are right now.

With your small list, don't think about how you're going to making money from them.

With each of your emails, aim to deliver information that will wow them.

This is actually not too hard.

For example, there is a thread on the forum about buying a .com domain from GoDaddy for 99 cents. Just email your list about this offer. They'll love you for it.

Make your subscribers feel that your intention is to help them. Whenever they see your name as the sender, they should be rushing to read it as they foresee it will contain kick ass info.

Once your subscribers have this feeling about you, they'll purchase your recommendations whenever you have one.

    - you're completely right, with this kind of niche providing proof is probably VERY important

    @activetrader

    - so i should focus on building a relationship and getting people to actually open and read my mails

So at the end of the day what i need to do at the moment is...

    - forget about sales until my list is bigger
    - focus on building a relationship and providing quality content
    - focus on getting people to actually open and read my mails
    - be more patient?

There are a few useful rules to monetize your list:

1.- Offer them product, services related to their "pain/problem"
2.- Keep constant contact with them.
    3.- Offer useful free advice.

Example, if you created a list based on a sexual dysfunction, you
can send some emails explaining what the dysfunction is really about
(myths and realities), some fast ways to prevent it and cure it, after
that you send a set of emails agitating one specific problem (I will use
your pennis enlargement example) like: you know, one of the main
problems that comes with this dysfunction is the lack of libido...
in the next emails you keep shaking the problem and in the last one
you tell them..."ok, so here is a product that will help you to overcome
your problems" and you present them the solution.

I will suggest you to learn the copywritting basics, because you will
use them a lot in email marketing.

      - i have many videos on youtube regarding my niche
      - this gives me around 70-90 hits a day
      - which go to my squeeze page
      - where i get their email in exchange for a "free report"

what i have learned so far is do not sell, do show. They are your list because they got something to give their email. What was that? You know it better. Give them more information and free advise initially on that particular subject. Let them feel that you are the only one to help them. List building is ROI. Go get it. Email them with advises. COnduct surveys with them to know more what they desire and in which direction. This will give you more ideas and also you will have a guide to choose the correct product to sell them.
