Choosing a Niche?! Help!

I am beginning Niche Marketing. I don't know alot about niche research. It seems as though all the niche's have huge competition. Is the niche competition that relevant? Or do I just pick any niche and then go for uncompetitive keywords?

Can anybody reccommend any good ways in which I can pick a niche to base my site/blog/whatever around?

    Ok. It depends on what you know.

    If you know how to use paid traffic then going after hugely competitive markets is not such a problem but if you only know SEO then you really should go for smaller niches.

    I say it depends on what you know because if you are going to enter a niche you are only going to be able to do what you know....right?

    If you are building blogs and sites for SEO then do a search in ClickBank, find a high converting product, research the market, if its good proceed to keyword research, get your domain build your sites and then start your promotions.

    When your not at your full time job, what are you doing?
    If you had more free time, what would you be doing?

    Answer those 3 questions, and you will have a good idea what your first niche should be about.

    I see a lot of new IMs trying to get into niches they know nothing about, and I think that is a big mistake. You have to spend hours doing research for every article, finding content, finding images, finding videos,,,.

    If you pick something you enjoy doing, you already have the information you need to kick start your business.

    Pick a general niche that you feel comfortable with. Remember, you're going to be doing a lot of content research and writing for it, so it should be a topic you like.

    Next, drill it down to a good sub-niche, or, a niche within a niche. For instance, apple is a general niche. Apple pie is a sub-niche.

    Focus on one topic at a time.

    I use amazon to sell stuff and this is how i find a small niche.

    1, Walk around your house, every room and see what you posses and make a list - don't forget to look in the garage or garden shed.

    Lets use the kitchen as an example.

    Do you have the following??

    Toaster
    microwave
    cooker
    blender
    juicer
    smoothee maker
    sandwich maker
    george foreman
    coffee machine
    breadmaker
    dishwasher
    washing machine
    tumble dryer

    Once i've made a list i will then drill down some keyword research for each item on the list.

    For example - toasters 2 slice or 4 slice, what color?

    Microwaves, again 700w - 800w what color.
    You will be surprised how many searches are conducted for colored items.

    If every niche you encounter is very competitive, you may be looking at niches that are too broad. You need to drill down more. You should also search for info on niche research.

    Example
    General Niche - "Caring for Fish"
    Specific Niche - "Caring for Koi Fish" or "Caring for Gosanke Koi Fish"

    You will find that spending a few days learning about good niche and keyword research will be well worth the time spent.

    Hey Hayden.

    I had the first problem when i started out. You really have to think that this is the internet and there are many people searching for even super targeted things... like maybe blue couch pillows. lol You want to get that targeted if you want to have high conversion rates.

    Look around at anything and then go to amazon and find something very targeted.
