I have heard the concept inbound marketing but not sure what it means or the concept around it. Any thoughts on this?

It is basically a concept driven by a company called Hubspot Inbound Marketing Software | HubSpot

The concept is that the old systems such as tv, radio, magazines etc is a dying form of promoting and they call it interuptive marketing. That is you have to interrupt someone to get your message across.

Inbound marketing is about getting content out there so when people go looking they will find you. This is done through social marketing, blogging etc. The reason for this is that much of this content is around for a long time.

They also use other things like Buzz marketing, viral marketing etc.

Have a look at their site as there is a lot of good stuff on their site. They are also quite active on Youtube, Linkedin and other social sites.

I think it means marketing to people who are contacting you, as opposed to going to them (outbound). In other words, email marketing would be outbound, whereas a recorded phone message for callers, or a landing page would be inbound-I think.

So is this new or just a different way of marketing and not necessarily a better mouse trap.

It's not really new. People have been doing it for a long time. Whenever someone does a review of your book or your latest album it will cause some of the readers to go look for your product.

Yes, it is a fancy way to call "Direct Marketing" direct marketing is basically qualify your prospects giving them a bail, follow up with them and make them contact you instead of them contacting you, it has been around forever, but just in recent times have taken off again, because it is one of the best principles to apply to the Internet.

Giving them a bail? I haven't heard that term before can you tell me what that means?

So, this sounds like putting a new shine on an old paint job.

My mistake I wanted to say a "bait" example: did you see some years ago on the newspaper ads where they were giving a free book or a free manual you just have to fill the form, after what they were gaining there was your information and they will follow up with you with a series of regular mail, mostly was what was selling withe letters.
