Hello!! You've A MAIL (but I swear I didn't send it))

Hey there..

Just want to share an incident that happened to me a few days back..Yesterday, I checked my gmail and realized that someone has hacked into my account and sent the following email to all my contacts:

"Hello

What have you been up to ?

Tell you a good news. At last few days,My friend Jack told me where
was called the factory of world. All the things is very cheap.

Register to be their members as soon as possible, during this time,
they have discount sales, many surprises are waiting for you.

what's more it is very convenient.

The price of products is great low from there. But very perfect. It’s
incredible!

For example: laptops, cell phone, digital cameras, LCD TV, GPS and so on.

Remarkably,they have a very excellent after-sale service.

You can log on their website *****(some stupid website)

I would like you to have a pleasant shopping!

Sincerely yours"

To my relieve, almost half of the emails sent to the contacts have failed to be delivered. After realizing what has happened, immediately I changed my password and sent a "sorry" message to the remaining people who received the damm email.

I've no idea how my password got leaked out.

So any idea on what might have caused this to happen?

Seems to happen every so often .... not the first thread I've seen like that, but changing your password will hopefully take care of it. Only answer I have is hackers do this to steal from people and to send out spam. Who really knows how hackers do what they do ... except for other hackers.

This has happened to me on a hotmail account. I have a friend who I swear has this happen to him once a month. I don't think there is much you can do except make the PW stronger.

Hope nobody falls for this stuff,

      ,
I wonder how they can think of such creative ideas to con people. LOL

And on the other side I can't believe that people are falling for all this crap. I just hope these spammers will be doomed to hell and never show up again to bother other potential victims.

If you use that password for any other accounts you'd better rush to change them. One warrior here had her gmail account hacked, and soon for her Paypal account and other accounts had been breached as well because she used the same password for those other accounts.

Never use the same password on any important accounts. What is an important account? Any account you don't want someone else to access!

Also make sure you're using a good password: at least 12 characters and a mix of upper and lower case case letters, plus numbers and characters. Never use a real word. Here's a good example password: f3G*mY4@f^vaQ)2h

They don't need your password to send an email that looks like it is from you. All they have to do is place your email address in the from and reply to spot. I'm willing to bet that if you logged into your Hotmail (or whatever) account, you will not see that email in your sent file.

I strongly suggest using password generators for all your secured accounts so that your passwords can never be guessed!

Oh boy... I actually have this happen a lot. Because I have some websites where people can contact me directly via emails such as "info@(whatever my domain).com, etc, I tend to get spam emails to begin with.

When I, myself, began to receive spam for Heaven-knows-what - from... guess who? From MYSELF! From my own website emails...It began to drive me nuts. I contacted my web host, my email host... you name it.

No one could help me. The only thing we were able to discern was that a lot of the emails were originating from an ISP in Brazil.

Now, why would I (female) need Viagra or whatever else they were trying to sell me send the spam TO me, FROM me? Do they honestly think I'll click on it? Yikes!

Finally, what I did (and what may help you) is that I made every single one of my email addresses "unclickable." That is, if a person REALLY wants to contact me, he or she needs to physically copy or type my email. I've changed the addresses... I have also worded them such as:
"Due to increasing email fraud, in order to protect you, my customer, as well as myself, you must physically type my email address into your message to me. It is info ("at" sign - you know what I mean) mydomain ("dot" - again, you get it) com. Thank you for your understanding, and for protecting all of us from scammers and spammers."

    Stuff like that.

Sadly, neither my website host nor my email provider could help. But, I hope this suggestion can help - if only a little.

    Cheers!
    Kath

Scroll down to the bottom of your gmail account.
    You'll see:

    Click details.

    OR

On the Spam email click the arrow down beside the reply button seen on the right hand corner.
