Trend Spotting - Christmas Site?

Hi All.

I'm a bit new at this, I can dig up a niche and such but what I'd like to do is put up a Christmas site and I'd probably look for cash with affiliate or CPC offers.

So for this I need a niche and a trend and I'm not that sure about how to ID a product that is going to be hot a Christmas time. I suspect that I'll have to go for a specific item - a Bozo XK5 or whatever to get ranking.

Alternatively I could pick a couple of products and work with Amazon.

What's the best way to move this along? I know I need a bit more info on trend spotting.

Thanks for you help.

Maybe you can team up with an online store like walmart or any other major store and see if they have an affiliate program so that when people come to your site and buy from them, you will get some nice commissions.

EBay and Amazon generally release their predictions for Xmas hot sellers around this time of year.

If you are a bit new to this and want to get something up right away I'd suggest taking a looking at sbucciarels pages. On her signature is something about halloween, click on that and scroll down and there's a list of ready made blogs that are extremely well priced and readily monetized. A lot come with a set of articles and keyword research done for you. I'm not sure she's got one for Christmas but it'll give you a good idea of other niches.

As you're new it may be good to look at Amazon, the commissions are not the best but you can test a few things really quickly. It would be easy to grab a few products that were hot last year or are predicted to be this year, set up a squidoo lens or blooger blog and just create an ezine article and other web2's directing to them. Keep an eye on the shops and news for what looks like being big at christmas. One year I became an affiliate of a nationwide toy store and just targetted a specific group of toys kids had been getting bought for them all year. Stands to reason a lot of the kids that have the toys before christmas are encouraging the kids that don't have them, to hassle their parents for one at christmas!

I'll run up my own site even if I make less I need to learn and for that I have to do.

There is another site I use and there was a cracking thread about just this, I read it early in the year and didn't book mark it. The rest is obvious I've just trudged through pages and pages of Christmas Jokes and alleged special offers and still not found it.

          Thanks aamcle

It can be hard to predict the hottest gifts during any given year. You can guess a few with reasonable accuracy, but there always seems to be one that comes out of nowhere.

The question, for me, is how does it get any attention at all? If possible, watch the morning news programs. They usually have segments about toys and gifts. Again, it's not always easy to predict accurately, but I think they have a lot to do with generating the initial buzz you want to take advantage of.

    All the best,
    Michael

The trend link is very good and I agree with SBUCCIAREL that looking at Amazon is a great source. Also go to Ebay and look at the "past auctions" with the advanced search function for various keywords and see what ones have consistent bids. With your keyword research look what seems to be popular because you will also want to know for next year so make a good Excel file for Christmas, Halloween etc and keep the data as you can use it for reference the next year.

Keep your pulse on the news sites... They came out with a top 25 list last week for most popular and talked about gifts for this year spanning from toys for kids to lotions for moms.

It pays to keep a finger on the pulse of the media, they make research so much easier for everything.
