Google Maps ranking free fall because of dumb mistake. Dang! Can this be corrected?

Hi everyone,

I got my client from the 16th position to no. 1 in Google Maps in a pretty competitive niche.

Then I did something I shouldn't have... post a review he had to a review site without changing my IP or using a Proxy server. I completely forgot. Big G must have matched my IP.

Sad to say, I instantly lost my ranking and am on page two or three now.

Can this be corrected somehow? Will Google forgive me someday?

    If this is true, it sounds stupid to be penalized for that. What if it was a legit customer who had the same IP. Also how does google even have access to IP addresses from a 3rd party site? Good luck with your situation. Google is a tricky beast.

    A legit customer will not have the same IP that has been working on the Google Maps listing (that's me!)

    According to Google Maps Cash, Google can notice if you are posting reviews using the same IP address.

    Any other questions or tips folks?

    Did you post the review on the Google Places site (under their listing) or did you place the review on a 3rd party review site?

    If you posted on another 3rd party site, Google doesn't know that information.

    I posted it on a 3rd party review site. I guess you are right.

    Then why the crazy drop in rankings? One other thing I did do was a tiny edit to one word in the description. The drop was instanteous.
