How many hours a week do you work on your online biz?

When I first started out online I worked pretty much every available hour apart from to eat, sleep, and 30 mins of TV before bed. If I had time I might go to the toilet, otherwise have to save it for tomorrow

Was doing somewhere between 70-90 hours a week. Pretty crazy but got me where I am today.

Now it varies a lot. Sometimes I'll do under 10 hours a week for a few weeks, sometimes I'll do 40 hours a week for a while, but usually somewhere in between. I'm hoping to cut my hours down a lot as time goes on and I have more great people on my team handling day to day stuff.

Right now I'm doing about 40-46 hours a week, with only one day off a week, but I'm deep into a couple of projects with deadlines approaching, plus hiring like crazy (well crazy for me anyway).

How about you?

I work on it when ever I'm not babysitting the grandson and doing other housewifey things.

Amounts to about 20+ hours a week.

Too many I agree the more work you put in the more money you will make. Its a business, but do whatever time permits for you. Just work on your online biz whenever possible.

I completely understand, I just finished a 24 hour work all night, night. Boy was it hectic, mostly just for the design and coding. Let alone promoting, that would involve another 2 weeks of non stop work. This includes no TV, no entertainment, music and constant work.

I work from 8-12, do my workout and have lunch, then I'm back in front of the computer at 2 PM and work until 5 or 6 PM. I try not to work after dinner, but I often do, which is actually a little stupid seeing as I'm usually not as efficient and effective at night. I get the most work per hour when I make a commitment to NOT work more than, say, 40 hours per week. Running a business like this from home makes stuff like that hard, though, especially when you're working with other people in other time zones etc. I've thought about renting an office downtown again and NEVER taking work home with me, but that won't happen now as I've decided to get an apartment in Kuala Lumpur (halfway across the world from where I am now) and work from there instead.

As many hours as I need to make the money I want to make that week and get the stuff done I need to do! Simply, that's as much as you need to work or pay someone else to work!!

4-8 hours/day but I'm looking at reducing this to 2 while maintaining the same level of output.

    Think 4-hour workweek style.

I have worked a lot of 40-50 hours weeks in the last 2 years. This summer I probably averaged about 10 hours a week. I went back to school 2 years ago and took quite the load of classes this semester. School started yesterday and it looks like I will have my work cut out for me. I don't believe that I will be able to work more than 5 hrs. a week this semester.

I've been devoting 20 hours per week to my online business.
When I started, I let it creep up to 45 hours. (Time=Money, ergo More Time=More Money, right? WRONG! I was burning myself out and missing the best things in life, which was the main reason I wanted an online business.
I quickly learned to outsource the trivial tasks and focus on the main goal: Increase traffic and revenue streams. Now I manage and deligate, and it's made all the difference. Good luck!

I do about 15 hours a week. And I am trying to get it down to ~10 by being more efficient, and focusing more.

I tend to be a workaholic. Plus, there is a pretty obvious correlation between how much time you put in and how much money you make. I like seeing the results in both the search engines and in $$. So - I probably put in more than 40 hours/week. Right now, I'm moving some sites around to different hosts, which is taking up time I'd rather spend elsewhere (but it needs doing).

Just got back from 3 weeks away, during which time I did very little except check e-mail and make sure there were no problems. Left some unfinished projects, which I'll pick back up again now I'm back, but everything rolled along fine without me. Which is the way I like it!

    It depends....

If I am working on a new product, then I would spend about 4 or more hours per day.

If I am not, then 1 hour and I am done. Usually I check email, find out how much I spent the day before, how much I made, I come to this forum and another one. Post in a few threads and that is it for me.

I work 5 hours a week. 1 hour a day and not on weekends. Pretty much everything is automated for me now. Even my JV launch emails are written at least a month in advance if I could help it...

I have never worked more than 10 hours a week even when starting up. It took me longer than others to get started, but I knew the money would come eventually. The one thing I did do was remain consistent and have a schedule for tasks. I always plan everything right down to the brass tacks.

I think it depends on who YOU are personally.

I make sure I consistently do something 5 days a week, and give myself two days off. I believe 1-2 hours a day done CONSISTENTLY is better than working 12 hours in one day only twice a month.

In the past, I equated success with HARD, skullcrushing, work where you eventually collapse at the finish line. I think many people fall into that trap and the problem with that is that it causes us to procrastinate in getting started, or when we do take action, it makes us work ourselves to the bone where we sacrifice our health, relationships, and overall well-being. NOTHING in life is worth sacrificing our well being. It's all about balance.

Some people are able to put in 12 hours days, others are able to do 6 hours, some are able to do 3 hours per day. It's all about being honest with yourself, BEING WHERE YOU'RE AT, and doing what you can do .This means not killing yourself with extraneous, unnecessary effort and at the same time not letting yourself off to easy by doing the bare minimum, but rather, challenging yourself in a healthy way, and being CONSISTENT with that.

I've learned it's not the quantity of the work you do but the quality. On days I'm writing articles, I spend probably 3 hours writing two (I can't wait till I get better at that to shorten the time). Other days, after I've written a batch of 40 articles over the course of a month, I spend my days on the WF asking questions and learning how to improve my articles, improve my site, learn about a new aspect of IM, etc. Some days you have to take action, and other days you have to soak up info to learn how to get better at what you do and not make the same mistakes. Each mode takes up a different amount of time.

I've learned not to stick to the "military" strategy of I MUST do 12 hours a day. That may work for others, but it doesn't for me. I learned to be honest with myself and my objectives, and taking my strengths and weaknesses into account, make sure I'm consistent in doing what's called for to do at the time to get to where I desire.

Normally between 30-40 hours a week. These days around 70+ because I am offering coaching.

For the next month the schedule is First week = 60-80 hours [coaching week]
then the usual 30-40 hour work weeks.

On a side note, I can easily cut down my working hours, there was a time few months back I was only doing 20 hours a week with the same amount work as of now but I like working. I tend to take breaks from time to time which I still spend on my computer checking out social sites or networking with peers and business partners online.

I was and am about like Sparkie2260. I used to work 60 hours a week all of the time, now I put in the time needed to accomplish each of my goals.

I connected with a group of Internet Marketing Millionaires that have taught me that it does in fact demand alot of time to make alot of money. However; it works much better with a daily regiment of scheduled activities that are focused on learning your business and strategically placing your efforts. Once I took these actions my 60 hour weeks also include down time everyday to disconnect and re-energize my creative juices.

Try scheduling your activities each day and make sure you take some down time each day. You will enjoy the success of your business much more.

4 years ago when I was just getting started, I would spend anything up to 12 hours a day working on my new business.

Fast forward to present day, I now earn a comfortable six figure income, and work for around an hour every day, my staff do everything, I am simply in finger pointing mode now. Then again, I don't stint when employing core management staff, I hire the best I can find and pay well.

I work from 9-5 (sometimes doing unpaid overtime till 8-9pm) and get home around 7 due to traffic. I used to spend till midnight writing terribly spun articles and doing social bookmarking.

Now I've outsourced all my work and other than submitting my stuff and giving my outsourcers instructions, it's less than 2 hours a week.

  • Full timer here (40 hours per week). If I was more efficient with my time, I could easily cut that down to 25 or so, but I tend to butt around too much when in front of the computer.

I don't have a schedule per say. I work based on a daily check list of things to accomplish. Sometimes I may work 9am to 9am :-/ but I have been know to take days off at a time.

I'm pushing the 50 to 60 hour per week, but only may work 3 to 4 days a week.

Well I'd say if we're talking about complete and efficient use of time on the PC towards IM per day, I think somewhere around 3-5 hours.

I don't really consider it work since I enjoy doing it.
