Information Overload!

Ok so I have a couple of dozen sites to promote...

Article marketing, press releases, twitter, facebook, RSS, blog comments, social bookmarking, videos, blog posts, software directories, SEO, Craigslist, Yahoo Answers, blah blah blah...

So many sites to promote, so many methods, so little time!

Frankly I've got SO MUCH to do and be getting on with there isn't enough time in the day, but the reality is I'm sitting here DOING NOTHING! Surfing the web and not being productive...

I have come to realize that when I have too much to do and too much on my mind, I actually freeze and don't do anything! Talk about back to front! I don't know where to start so I don't and the thought of getting everything completed is daunting.

Anyone else ever feel like this? How do you overcome it?

Yeah, I outsource my content but with backlinking etc I haven't found anyone I can trust to do it properly so I do it myself. Maybe I should look harder!

    I've had this many times.

Get a big note pan & write a plan out.

At the end of the night I like to sit down & set out a "to do" list to follow through with the next day.

Break things down into daily tasks like...

Monday - Create & submit video to youtube. Write one article & submit to ezine.
Tuesday - Update bolg. Make 3 answer in yahoo. Create Craigs list add
Wednesday - Off, read up & learn things I'm not sure about.

    etc..

By the end of the week you should have a ton of work done.

There you go...That is the perfect way to take care of it. By laying out your plan of what you are going to do each day and just checking off the list you feel motivated to keep going.

Each item checked off the list equals success.

      Great reply Barry$,

Yeah that's cool. Though I do write 'to do' lists I never write a timeframe for completion so that should help, thanks!

I've been there. that's plagued me for awhile. however nowadays my approach is to just do SOMETHING. anything that'll drive traffic or promote my sites. action cures inaction everytime. i remember dan kennedy saying it's easier to change course once you're in motion than it is to get started.

I'm facing the same options with so many possible decisions to make so here's what i'm doing.

          1. limit my choices (instead of 10 methods to promote my sites I'm focusing on 3)
          2. automation tools. instead of buying 10 tools, i'm focusing on 1 tool that'll make my life simpler. once the cashflow increases i'll scale up.
          3. STOP reading so much different information. While I'm on the warrior forum if the topic isn't about driving traffic thru article marketing or product creation i skip it. i'm staying focused on my business model which is creating products and driving traffic to those products. i don't care about anything else. i don't care about ppc, ppv, adsense, cpa marketing, affiliate offers, media buys etc. i've got tunnel vision, that stuff doesn't exist to me right now.

Yeah, while the WF is a great place to learn etc it does keep making me go off on tangents as there are so many ideas and techniques to use.

Maybe I need to (dare I say it?!) leave the WF for a while!

if that's what you feel you have to do, take a break from it. or come here after you've worked on your business for awhile. or do what i do and focus on topics that can help you instead of anything that catches your attention.

You can always screen record how you do things and like things to be done and use this video to train the freelancers to make sure they GET what you want them to do.

When I have all sorts of stuff to do and can't pick any of it to concentrate on, I recall what my granddaddy used to tell me: "Son, you can't do everything first." Then it's time to put down about 80% of it and concentrate on the 20% that counts.

Basically, if you've got all those projects going on, you're not running a business, you're flinging doo at walls hoping something'll stick.

After all, there's no such thing as information overload. There's only the inability or unwillingness to decide what to pay attention to. Once you start making decisions and weeding out all the stuff not taking you where you want to go, the "information overload" disappears like magic and life becomes amazingly peaceful.

Ask me how I found this out.

    Cheers,
    Charles

Are these sites making you money?

I would outsource all I could if they were and focus on the stuff only you can do.

If your not making money off some sites I would take a break from the minor ones and focus on whats going to really bring you in some decent $$. I find it hard to focus to with many projects however if I get down and focus on just one, ill do it really well.

Sit down and write down what should be an effective and useful actions that you should be taking in order to move forward.

What's the most effective advertising technique. How much time should you spend each day with it.

If you think that one of your advertising techniques will not work so well, scratch it off and see what's better.

    I have the same problem.

Probably ADHD or something. I focus for a while and then get bored. I start something new and next thing I know I have 10 projects all NOT getting done.

I have found that I must push through the bored feelings and get one project up and running before I start any more.

I notice a common thread in much of this good advice: Use a pen and paper. That is, do it somewhere besides at your computer.
I used to try to get organized with lists, priority trackers, etc., created on my computer. All that did was kept me at the computer, where I was easily distracted by email, networks and other time-wasting online activities.

I still have this problem, 20 + projects going on right now.

I freeze up and find myself reading forums too much or reading blogs too much.

Then I slap myself and write down my todo list of things I want done this week. Then I break it down into daily tasks and stick to that list for the next 7 days. It's the only way I can focus properly.

You guys are taking on a lot. 12 projects, 10 projects, 20 projects...
Maybe you're taking on too much right now?
It's okay to let a few projects "sit" while you focus on the 2 or 3 that are the most promising right now, or the ones that need the most attention.

And I really agree with the daily list idea. Getting yourself into a habit of doing a task everyday helps, too.

Things were very much the same for me when I first started out. I had so many sites and so many projects to complete because I kept taking on new task before i had finished my first. Start off small. Finish one site and get that rewarding you for your efforts and then move on to a second. Once you are profiting consider outsourcing with the profit you are making whilst you work on a new project and so on...Just keep the ball rolling from there.
