Boost Email Productivity with these Simple Tricks

As marketers, we get bombarded with offer-after-offer. A few months ago I instituted this little trick to get my inbox under control.

I've created a filter in Google Apps (Gmail) to deliver all marketers and pitches into a "Marketers" folder.

It's like shuffling salespeople past the front desk and directly into a "sales room" where they all sit and wait to be heard. Once a day, I skim the topics and click on any that interest me. This helps locate overall trends and I can also see who's riding on the coat tails of "big launches" and who isn't.

The mental impact on this filter is powerful. My focus is never disrupted and only high priority items appear inside the inbox. The marketer's ability to use urgency and scarcity is also subdued. This helps your wallet, too.

How to set this up...

First, create a label under Settings > Labels.
I created Labels for Webinars, Marketers, PLR, Software, Swipe File, etc.

Next, just wait. When a marketing email arrives, click the following:

Click Next, then...

Done. That last checkbox will filter everything out of your inbox and right into your All Mail "Archive".

Hey BlueSquares - great tip. I've been doing this for a few years using Google Apps. It is 99% perfect. My only issue is that iOS devices don't check for new email within folders...

If you could crack that I would be SUPER happy!

I do something similar but I have a GMail address exclusively
for this purpose - no other types of e-mail go to that address.

When I subscribe to each marketer's list, I also create a unique
address 'on the fly' by using myname+listname@gmail.com so
I can track how my e-mail address is being used (or mis-used).

I've got a folder set-up for each marketer, and have them
      filtered through and labelled automatically.

However, I only check it once a week or so - on my schedule.

This way, their e-mails don't interupt my main inbox or alter
      my focus.

If a marketer delivers useful information and offers, then I may
choose to upgrade them to my main e-mail account.

      Dedicated to your success,

      Shaun
