A well needed vald Rant!

I'm sick of all this make believe over the top hype when it comes to the latest "must have" product.

Sure, I know people need a bit of excitement to buy a product, however some marketers are just taken it way way way over the top.

I forgot the product, but just recently, I was looking at some random must have thing that apparently can make me $100'000 in one week (yea right), with only 1 hour's work a day (yea right) and there is only 35 left (oooo, oh no, he's gonna stop selling them). At this point, i had lost all trust in the person and the product.

I closed the window, came up with the usual "wait, stay on this page now and receive...etc", i clicked stay and apparently they had sold 27 copies in only 45 seconds as only 3 copies were left.

Then i clicked to close the window again, same pop-up box came up asking me to stay on this page. I clicked stay (often people give a free product in exchange for being on their list at this point). This person made my browser go to the clickbank cart... and somehow 27 copies more were on sale as the "amount left" shot back up to 30 as it said 30 left in the item description.

By this point, 2 words were in my head.....

"no chance!"

so, lessons for people...

1.) Don't be so full of poo with regards to product claims (there's slightly exaggerated hype and over the top nonsense... get the balance right)

2.) If you are going to completely lie about everything to do with your product, at least do not contradict yourself

3.) MOST IMPORTANT: You are selling to internet marketers just like yourself. They know all the tricks you do, some may know more, so remember who you are dealing with and don't try and bullship (i said ship not ****) your way to a sale else all you'll get is a bad review and a waste of space on the internet.

    Hi Daniel,

I see nothing wrong with enthusiasm for a product you're selling, sometimes people read that as hype.

But the problem about lying is that it proves your product isn't worth buying. Think about it. If you have to lie what does that really say bout your confidence in your product?

If you feel you have to lie, then your product isn't worth selling. Keep at it until it is worth selling.

The sad part is that this message won't be taken to heart by the hucksters and scammers of the world, but what can you do? On the other hand, there may be newer people reading this who will take it to heart.

I'm a big fan of letting things sell on their own merits. So, while your example is over the top, I consider misleading subject lines to be the same thing. C-r-a-p (pardon my language) of any color is still c-r-a-p.

    All the best,
    Michael

They should remove the Wait! message completely. If I clicked the big red X it meant I wanted to leave. I don't care what else there is.

I would just ignore all this stuff you see and just focus on number 1: making money.

I remember reading about product popularity a little while ago. I remember reading a comparison on similar priced ebooks.

This is a very general statement, but basically it showed that the ebooks that promoted "Make $100 per day" were more popular than "Make $1000 per day", or something to that effect.

It seems to indicate that buyers are more interested in realistic goals.

Of course there's a million variables that would affect this, but an interesting result none the less!

    cheers

    Hi Daniel,

I can relate with you. We are not likely to be their intended target market.

We understand the logic of the seller and feel a wee-bit insulted although
every now and then we'll find a useful tid-bit in their sales copy that can
be recycled if used in it's untwisted context.

Take it with a grain of salt.
Maybe these will lighten the load and cheer you up a little.

And what exactly were you searching for when you accidentally ran into the offensive "Make $100,000 in One Week" site?

Let me guess ... Make Money Online or How to Make $100,000 in One Week (without really working)? ... or something similar.

So you closed the browser? Even though it took a couple of tries, that wasn't so hard, was it?

    • ooo, a cheeky one

Nah, I received an email from a mailing list and was bored, so i thought i'd have a look.

The email itself was done quite well tbf. It wasn't too over the top, so I clicked it... then the sales copy just ruined it for me.

I don't buy products anymore, the warrior forum is all i need. Especially the war room.

However, it is interesting going over other peoples mistakes in their sales copy and learning from it.

lol ... actually, I know what you mean because those types of sales pages irk me as well, but I'm not subscribed to any lists (other than one) and I never look for that kind of stuff.

You're right ... the War Room would keep most busy and happy for a good while.
