I would be willing to invest a good amount of money into creating an online business.

How much would you expect a mentor to charge?

        Hey @BrendonTracey,

You're quite fortunate then if you have the resources to invest in a proper education. There are many free tutorials, books, whitepapers, reports, videos and more out there that you can invest time in instead of money, and ultimately achieve the same results.

Yes, a good mentor is great to have onboard, but the experience you get with a mentor is much more involved and fruitful if you cover all the basics yourself first.

YouTube is full of videos on the subject, and the Warrior Special Offers Forum has a tonne of information available at very low prices or for free.

I think if you're on the Warrior Forum, then WSO's should be the first place you look for information, some of the guys there have released some excellent materials on creating online businesses from scratch.

        Hope that helps

        Cheers,
        Angelina

I think you need to make it clear what exactly your goals are, are you looking to make money in a specific market or are you just looking to make money.

I'm looking to make money all together so I can quit my day job and just run a online business full time. Any specific market does not matter to me since I am planning to outsource most, if not all of the work and just supervise the business/workers.

The reason I ask about a mentor is I would like someone who has been successful with creating an online business + outsourcing to guide me. I know it sound like a lot to ask but i'm sure I could give to mentor something of value for their time.

A mentor is an expensive way to learn the fundamentals and figure out what type of online business you want to run.

I'd highly recommend taking the time to find out what you want to do and then look for someone that can speed up the process.

Otherwise a mentor will just be speeding up getting you somewhere you don't want to be.

  • Forget mentors and start experimenting with your own ideas. People who make it in this business are action-takers, not hand-holders.

    Hey Brendon,

Mentors can be helpful, but none will hold your hand. And those that are good, are expensive.

You must learn most of this stuff on your own. Teachers can teach but the student must learn.

At this point it sounds like a good membership site would be more valuable in your progression.

You must take action. One sure fire way to success is to fail faster. Learn from your mistakes. You'll know what mistakes are quick enough.

    Study, Lean, and Implement.

    My best to you,
    Jerry

Here is what you want to do in looking for a mentor.

      1. Have specific goals in mind for what it is you want to accomplish. To do
this, write down your skills, interests, etc. Write down how much you're
willing to invest in your business each month and what return you're looking
for initially, in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, etc.

      2. Whoever you decide to approach, make sure they are an established
name. Research them on the Internet to see what others are saying
about them. You want somebody with a track record.

      3. Contact the person and explain in detail what your goals are and what
you want to learn. A good mentor will know if they are a good fit for you.
Not every successful marketer can teach every little thing.

      4. Be willing and ready to put in many hard hours. A good mentor will
work you very hard and not put up with any crap.

      5. Be ready to pay a substantial fee for a professional service.

But like Andy said, know what you want or you'll just be paying for
somebody to get you to a place you probably don't want to be at or
don't know what to do with once you get there, faster than doing it
      yourself.

IMO, people who need a mentor are those who need somebody to kick
them in the butt and be accountable to another person. If you don't
need this (the knowledge is really secondary as you can get that anywhere
if you look hard enough) then a mentor really won't help you.

      Hope this helps.

        Hi Brendon,
If you are looking for someone to coach/mentor you then be very sure of
what goals you are trying to achieve before you start.

In your case not knowing much about IM it might be best for you to get a
coach that could teach you the basics first. Learning the basics first and
having a coach to help you in over coming hurtles would be a good start.

Once you understand the basics and can grasp more advanced methods
then you would be ready to start building your business. Attempting to
build a building before laying a solid foundation is a recipe for disaster.

        Steven,
I have personally found that to be true when coaching others.

That is why I have them post the tasks they complete daily so they are
held accountable. Also down the road when they are ready to rinse and
repeat they have notes on how they accomplished it.

There is an old proverb that states,
"When the student is ready the Master will appear.

Although, there is also another proverb that states,
"Teachers open the door, but you must enter yourself."

Both statements are very profound and have a lot of valuable meaning.

        Have a Great Day!
        Michael

If I was you I'd stay on this forum and then read every post Steven Wagenheim writes. He's always has good stuff to say (no, not an affiliate, don't even know him aside from here).

What a mentor will help you with is not just how to do stuff, but more importantly to keep you focused on what you need to do. Of course you can do it on your own but it will be slower. The mentor has already done the mistakes that they can help you avoid. However, mentorships can be expensive. If you'd like you can check out the signature below, it's a cheaper alternative. As it is in every business, getting a good mentor will save you money and lot of mistakes. But it is not just a mentor, a successful one that is passionate about your success.

Myself as a case study, despite my 6 years experiences online, I am just about making wave. My website of 4 months old is doing well in terms of traffic and have started earning me some income. This due to my new mentor helping me and others.

You can check my alexa.com ranking of my 4 months old website and some Gurus you will see sense in what I am saying.

I will not like to give any name so that it will not seems that I am advertising someone. If you send me a private message I will give you his information, so you can access him objectively.

I think you can start with getting your hands on some of the free materials here, there are hundreds of resources to get you started. Then you also need to be clear about what you want and which branch of internet marketing you want to specialise in. In fact there are mentors and specialists for all kinds of branches (SEO, social media, CPA, etc.) I think a good place to find such mentors might be the WAR Room, although i ve never been there : (

Having a mentor and learning from someone who is successful was one of the keys to my being full time Internet Marketer since 2007. Make sure you do your due diligence on who you are working with, Google their name, ask them to explain to them why they would be a good mentor.

Mentoring... Expensive? What the H...? Mentoring by definition is : a wise or trusted adviser or guide.
Paying for knowledge is not mentoring it's consulting.

You can't trust a mentor who have financial advantage over you.

It's sad but even in this Warrior forum where we should find trust and guidance the vast majority of people here are Consultant not mentors... who will sell product that they can't even describe clearly before you buy it...

    My 2 cents

  • I personally wasn't getting anywhere fast on my own. just getting deeper and deeper into information overload. I got so much information from here that I just didn't know how to put it all together. I then met Alex Jeffreys at an event in London and then had the opportunity to join his coaching program. I was instantly blown away with the content inside his program, he really does lay down everything you need to know no matter what level you are at. He has got me so much further on than I was before and he is still teaching me loads to this day!

That coaching program is actually closed but he has a new one coming out in the next few days. Have a look at the intro video and see if it is what you are looking for. I have nothing but praise for him as he has guided me exactly where I wanted to go and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It is getting brighter and brighter by the day!

I have also learned a lot about what I already knew and how I can use that to help other people and my business advance.

Here is a link to the new program but you can't buy in yet as it is just in the pre launch stage. It does give you a very good idea about what it is all about and there is an opportunity to win an iPad packed with the whole course as well as free entry into the program. Just have a look here

hi all, good thread. well im new here to wf, but not new to the internet, i love the technology and the internet. I am a fast learner, passionate about what I do, and set goals and achieve them. I am in the real estate industry, which has GOT to be the market with THE MOST "mentors" "coaches" "gurus" there is. So, in our industry there are many that claim to be a coach, or mentor, but really they are just nickel and diming you to death with product after product, or phone/web calls with basic, generic info. so you have to be careful. Im sure its the same in the IM industry/market. So how much are we talking here? 500 bucks? 5000? i need someone to give me that first push over the hump. Ive been working hard for months setting up our hotdamnshortsales ebook and survival kit. I have kajabi ready to launch, youtube,fb,twitter, all the basic newbie stuff. BUT I need to know the REAL tips like SEO,backlinking, making sure my websites/landing pages/sales pages are optimized for conversion. Makin sure my clickbank is integrated with kajabi properly, making sure and assisting in attracting other affiliates. resources for ad and blogging, stuff like that. I learn fast and just need a few hours over say maybe a week or so to get me on the right path. where can I find someone like that? im sure its on here somewhere.

    thanks all...

In my opinion you need to educate yourself on marketing! Finding a mentor is ok but like others said, they will not hold your hand. My suggestion is find a nice course that will help you on that aspect.

Bottom line is if you can't product leads for your business then you have no business. If you need any recommendations just let me know.
